My latest drawing(s), from my guide on how to draw textures.
Textures, we love them.
Sometimes, all our attention is to textures or colors.
That is wrong.
First, the form and values must be correct.
Then, adding textures takes the drawing to the next level.
Few tips:
For metal, make sure you have a strong contrast (light lights, and dark darks).
Clearly, for a fine art drawing, it is important to learn how to draw realism.
For wood texture, try to be abstract with your marks.
Make sure they are not parallel.
In addition, make sure the width of the marks is changing.
Attention to linear perspective drawing is very important.
When it comes to plastic, in many cases there are no marks, and no strong contrast.
Because plastic is smooth, I sometimes like using smooth paper for drawing.
On the other hand, for fabric, I like rough paper. I use its texture for the fabric texture.
And smoothing tools are ok too.
They are great for fast drawing.
It is fun when using several textures in one drawing.
Overlapping is very important for adding the illusion of depth on a flat surface.
It means an object that covers part of another object.
Try to use it as much as you can.
Here are the textures again.
