The charm of things

Once the Japanese Yamazaki Masawa gave a year-long lecture on Japanese art at a US university. Trying to explain one of the principles of Japanese aesthetics called "the charm of things", he gave examples to explain the essence of this concept. But the more examples became, the more Masawa understood that it was impossible to convey the meaning of the principle in English.

Interestingly, I thought, is the Russian language able to convey something close to "avare"?
The concept is translated as "the charm of things." The full name - "mono no avare" - seems to be an understanding of the deep, inner essence of things. In the philosophy of aesthetics of the Japanese, every thing has a kami - a divine part. We would say soul. And if you were able to see (feel) this unique charm, then you touched the soul, this very "avare".

Once I was looking at a window covered with a thin layer of ice. The world was in motion and thin ice was melting under the warmth of my hand, the lanterns were shining, the headlights glided over the frosty glass. And now the cold again covered the window with a veil, the picture became hazy, but still beautiful. Time seemed to flow through me. Gradually faded and this charm of a few minutes. Sadness without regret of loss in a passing time.
Disappearing beauty ... or, to be more precise, the beauty of that which is fading away.
I think this is it - that same "mono no avare".

Однажды японец Ямадзаки Масава читал годичный цикл лекций о японском искусстве в одном из университетов США. Пытаясь объяснить один из принципов японской эстетики под названием "очарование вещей", он приводил примеры, поясняя суть этого представления. Но чем больше становилось примеров - тем сильнее Масава понимал, что донести смысл принципа на английском невозможно.
Интересно, подумала я, а русский язык способен передать что-то близко похожее к "аварэ"?
Понятие переводится как "очарование вещей". Полное название - "моно-но аварэ" - представляется пониманием глубокой, внутренней сути вещей. В философии эстетики японцев каждая вещь имеет ками - божественную часть. Мы бы сказали-душу. И если вы смогли рассмотреть (почувствовать) это неповторимое очарование, то вы прикоснулись к душе, этого самого "аварэ".
Однажды я рассматривала окно, покрытое тонким слоем льда. Мир был в движении и тонкий лёд таял под теплом моей руки, светили фонари, свет фар скользил по морозному стеклу. И вот холод вновь покрыл пеленой окно, картинка стала туманной, но всё ещё красивой. Время словно текло сквозь меня. Постепенно угасло и это очарование нескольких минут. Грусть без сожаления утраты в ускользающем времени.
Исчезающая красота...а если быть точнее, то красота того что угасает. Думаю, это оно и есть - то самое "моно-но аварэ".
