One of the free gifts of nature that was given to everyone fairly in equal proportion is time. It is also among the most treasured and valuable resources, yet it is the one that is also heavily mismanaged. Whether you like it or not, time is already going and will keep going without a recourse to if you will take advantage of it or not. In fact, you are the one to take advantage of time or it will just pass you by. Remember that opportunity also comes as part of how you effectively and efficiently manage time.
Time is of utmost importance because almost everything that you want to do is bound by time. This is why you have to learn how to manage and effectively use time in your favour. This includes organizing and allocating your time through different activities that will bring gain to you. Doing something is not the same thing as utilising time. Someone can be busy but doing absolutely nothing relevant. It is not how long you have been busy that counts but how you have efficiently managed your time for the activities. Managing your time makes you to work smarter (with the result in focus) than just working harder. After all, what brings the rewards is not the hardness of the labour but the result.
One of the benefits that you can derive from managing your time is that it reduces stress. When you have planned your activities and know exactly what you want to do, it will reduce the need to rush and it will also reduce anxiety that can bring stress. It is when you do not know what to do and how to do it that you will be trying out things in error and progressing in futility. I have noticed that each time I clearly allocate time to various activities, it will be easier to do them than just trying to do everything at once. Managing time is not trying to do everything at a time but effectively allocating time through various activities and then undertaking them.
What is the need of trying to multitask and end up not getting anything done well nor actualization any task? It is better to break the tasks into various bits at their own allocated time. Then taking them one-at-a-time. What will make sense at the end is not how many tasks you took at a time, but how many of them you were able to complete. The person that took their tasks one after the other, and got them done, is better than the person trying to get everything done once and could not complete even a task. More so, the former will be less stressful and less anxious, while the later will deliver unimaginable stress. This is why you have to learn to manage and use time effectively.
Time management also helps to boost productivity. When you channel your energy towards doing what will bring you gain, while focusing on the result, you will tend to achieve more. I remember where I did my internship sometimes ago, at the end of the week, appraisal would be taken to know what each employee had done and the tasks they completed. When I realized this, I understood that it is actually the productivity that is rewarded, not the attempts. So I had to figure out ways, with my colleagues, to maximise time and accomplish more tasks in lesser time. It worked for us because we were able to utilise time effectively. Just to let you know, time becomes an opportunity when it is managed well.
When maximizing and managing your time, you have to learn the power of priority. That is, focusing on activities in the order of importance and preferences. Identify the tasks that have a high impact yield, and then channel more energy on them. This will help you to save time. You also need to eliminate distractions and anything that may want to shift your focus away from what you want to do. When you maintain adequate focus, it will be easy to undertake tasks effectively and then manage time well. The last point is to also learn to take regular and relevant break. Resting is still part of managing time. When you have rested, you will be able to undertake tasks effectively and productively, thereby saving time.
