My ArtVenture: Acrylic painting „Break free“

in hive-185836 •  4 years ago

Hello my dear Steemians and Art Fans,

Today I wanted to present you my new work. You might remember in one of the last posts I mentioned that I have not done many maritime works and wanted to do series of them. So I am with another one.

Before I tell you about my new work, I wanted to answer the question of @bambuka, who was querying about the acrylic paper. I am using :

  • Acrylic paper from WHSmith: canvas textured sheets
  • 30,5x 40,5 cm
  • 240 gsm weight

In the past I was also a bit worried that 240gsm might wave, but it is only if water diluted acrylic paint used then paper waves, but if you are using pure paint then paper remains relatively flat.

Here is everything I used for my work:

  • Acrylic paper
  • Flat brush, which has very bushy bristles, it is very old but I still love it
  • Couple of palette knives, and
  • Paints in big tubes, but because my white was empty and I urgently needed one I just bought this 10 paints set.

By the way, here I wanted to show my paintings laying loose on the flat surface, you can see the paper is nice and flat.

Also, wanted to mention, another great surface for acrylic paints is cardboard. Usually when my paper block is used, I use the back side of it for painting too. It is usually hard cardboard and that is great for painting. Here you can see and judge yourself.

Now back to my work:

So, first, I thought to do still night in soft red, yellow tone. The background is ready, ship and sails. Later on, I noticed that the sky has no clouds and sea is calm, but my ship has full sails. That does not fit to each other. There is a great feature of acrylic paint, once it is dry and you do not like it, you can just paint it over. That is exactly what I did, I changed sea first, created some waves and then added black blue sky with moon instead of sun. So here it is my work.

My step-by-step process:

Awesome art work @stef1, the combination of waves and ships is very real.

Thank you I am glad that this composition looks better :)

ur welcome

I love the pattern on the marine theme, especially ships and yachts. Your painting is simply amazing. However, it looks like there will be a storm?

I really liked the sky. It's just fantastic!

Gorgeous ships! My first book was inherently piratey, and it always warms my heart to come across a well tended-to set of sails. Sail on!

Pirates and adventure that is something that I also love from my childhood :)
