πŸͺœ Do You Like Heights?

in hive-185836 β€’Β  last yearΒ

I'll begin by saying that I don't like heights. I don't mind them if I'm safely enclosed by some super-sturdy barriers but the thought of going up onto a roof fills me with anxiety. I don't like doing it.

But when you're told that it'll cost a large sum of money to get your gutters cleared and you've got a 6m ladder in the garage, personal safety becomes less important so on Monday morning, I ventured onto the roof to do a spot of "spring" cleaning.

Even this picture makes me feel a little giddy!

"Fortunately", we have 2 flat rooves at the rear of our house and I'm able to position the super-long ladder almost perfectly between them. It's a little bit scary straddling across from the ladder to the roof (carrying gutter cleaning bits) but I was very brave and managed to do it.

Getting onto the new(ish) flat roof at the back is much easier and from here, I can elegantly roll myself over the eaves and onto the flat roof at the front.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn't great and on a sunny day, you can see for miles. It was very overcast though and luckily, not too windy but the views are still very impressive.

Living by the sea, we get a lot of bastard seagulls. They'll often nest on a house fairly close to us and if it weren't for our own little army of crows that live in the trees around our house, they'd certainly fancy a home on our roof too.

That didn't stop the bastards trying to intimidate me which I wasn't very happy about (due to the aforementioned dislike of heights). To show how big and brave I was though, I took a photo of the bastard circling above me.

I was recently told that seagulls are protected but I think I'll buy an air rifle or powerful BB gun anyway so that the next time I decide to go up there, I can shoot the bastards.

Other than clearing the gutters (which didn't really need clearing), I could check on our solar panels to be sure that birds hadn't managed to get in behind and nest there. They hadn't. And I'm reminded of how beautiful they are πŸ™‚

So that's my gutter checks complete for another year and I shall dread this job again next year.

Great!

For maintenance purposes, it's good to clean the panels at least twice a year.., but I know that's not always easy especially if the panels are placed at the top of the roof with some scary heights.

Regularly cleaning it at such intervals prevents a continuous buildup of residues and keeps the panels operating optimally always.

I am an acrophobia, but because of my constant installation of Solar PV and maintenance, I've cast those fears to the sea.

Just this year, I climbed a three-storey building to mount some panels and trust me, I didn't give a danm to any bastards that were flying...

But when I came down from that top, someone told me to write a will next time if I am climbing that top again...

For maintenance purposes, it's good to clean the panels atleast twice a year..,

I assume you don't get as much rainfall as we do which will probably mean more cleaning. Maybe I'll give ours a clean if I go up there again next year πŸ˜†

I watch some people wander around rooves like I'd wander around in the garden, the confidence and fearlessness is something that I'll probably never have. I even put on a little safety helmet which makes the-mrs-gorilla think that I'll be ok if I come tumbling down!

We do have rainfall over here..., I won't say it's much..., but one thing I'm certain is that it's wild when it comes to it's season...and on such situation, it's good to clean even more than twice a year....

I watch some people wander around rooves like I'd wander around in the garden, the confidence and fearlessness is something that I'll probably never have.

This is something I am actually learning to be perfect with.....but it's easier said than done.

Roof climbing is not an easy task, I think it's a special skill.

I even put on a little safety helmet which makes the-mrs-gorilla think that I'll be ok if I come tumbling down!
πŸ˜€

I pray it never fails

You can probably get special spider-man shoes and gloves so that you never have to worry πŸ˜‰

I wish I can afford one....

I have no problem with heights.
But when I find myself half-balancing on a roof on which I can't really hold on either... then I do have one. :-)

I just recently felt this way when I wanted to sort out the wiring of our solar panels. There was only a small passage between the panels to reach the other side. Unfortunately, no one else was willing to do it ;-)
... and luckily I was not attacked by bastards ;-)

But when I find myself half-balancing on a roof on which I can't really hold on either... then I do have one. :-)

I forgot to say that when I was stretching over to get off the ladder onto a roof, one of my legs cramped up which I had to try to ignore!

It looks like roof work is something that us solar panel owners need to get used to πŸ™‚

I'm almost afraid so. The other day I was already thinking about whether and how often the panels should be cleaned... Unfortunately, ours are a little less inclined than yours.
I think I'd rather let the rain do it :-)

I think I'd rather let the rain do it :-)

That's my approach - we get plenty of rain. My worry's those flying bastards dumping their load all over them although after (I think it's) 4 years, they still look pretty clean to me!

If I see a big drop off in performance, I might change my mind!

Unfortunately, ours are a little less inclined than yours.

This might also mean that your roof will be easier to move around on - I find it impossible to stand up on ours so it's lucky we've got the flat roof to walk on.

Yes, absolutely! I wouldn't have climbed onto another roof either. That would be too tricky for me..

Not sure if you need answers for statistic purposes or the question was purely rhetoric?.. but we are in same boat here: heights is one of the things I hate at almost idiocyncratic level.

We could certainly turn it into a statistical analysis.

Disliking heights in now winning 2-0 😊

Are there people who really "love" or like heights? I mean, to not be scared of heights sounds cool but to like it, hahaha I think there are very few people who are like that.
I don't like anything that has to do with climbing.. even going up the stairs of a storey building makes me uneasy, I'm always thinking of the worst thing that could happen. Just the thought of falling from that distance! 😱
You were brave; in circumstances like that when you've got few options and you've gotta do such things by yourself, you gather all the courage you can get and hope you don't come tumbling down from up there!πŸ₯² Good job

Are there people who really "love" or like heights?

I think that there are - you get those crazy folk who throw themselves out of aeroplanes as a hobby.

So lazy - you need to get more exercise πŸ˜‰

you need to get more exercise

I walk to work, and I go the gym everyday. I think that's enough exercise πŸ€”

It's never enough. You need more πŸ™‚

Always.. πŸ™‚

I must admit, I am also afraid of heights. It is a problem for me to even climb a roof or climb a tree. While working at a chemical plant, I often had to climb to a considerable height where the equipment was installed. At first it was very scary, but over time I got used to it.

I haven't thought about climbing a tree for many decades. Climbing trees doesn't seem like a very sensible thing to do any more πŸ™‚

Gorillas are not famous for their climbing skills, are they...?

I have zero problems there. It's possible that I would choose a job with high-altitude mountaineering if I were younger...

Gorillas are not famous for their climbing skills, are they...?

Ha ha. It's amazing what love can make a gorilla do 😜

Nice panels - how often do you clean them?

Never 🀣

How about you and yours?

Mine have only been up 6 months, but i was thinking before our upcoming Summer to clean them.

You know to get that extra 0.0064% πŸ™„πŸ˜‚

Ha ha. I'm sure the extra 0.0064% is worth it πŸ™‚

When I had the installed I asked how often I should get somebody to clean them and although I can't remember his answer, it was probably along the lines of "I wouldn't bovver mate."

what a beautiful view and good electric concept

Thanks πŸ‘

I like heights. I love climbing up but coming down becomes a problem sometimes especially if it's that roof top. But I can climb a tree and come down with ease.

But my people say that whenever someone is climbing a height, even if that person is experienced, they will still encourage the person to be careful. This is because even the most experienced climber can still fall down if not careful.

Kudos for a successful climbing πŸ‘!

But I can climb a tree and come down with ease.

I'm guessing you're quite a lot younger than me! I don't think I've ever really climbed trees - I'm pretty sure I tried a few times, got shouted at to come down and then stopped altogether!
