Having previously promoted the #woxsports and #woxfantasysports hashtags within World Of Xpilar, we have created a nice little community of Sports followers, predominantly around the Fantasy Sports contests.
We'd like to build upon this and open up a community dedicated to World Of Xpialr's sporting community which follows the community's values of creativity, engagement and team work. Our hope and expectation in doing this is to encourage more of our users to produce and share their own unique perspectives on Sports and in the long term, build and improve the quantity and quality of Sports content on steemit.com.
Why Now?
I'm conscious that we already have the Steem Sports community along with other communities such as World of Football, Steem Baseball, Steem Race and Steem Basketball but we've recently discovered that the World Of Football, Steem Sports, Steem Baseball, Steem Race and Steem Basketball curation accounts are all powering down (World Of Football has now stopped after a 50% withdrawal) and as we've previously seen with the Writing & Reviews community, once the creators of the community and its curation account leave, the community slowly (or quickly) fades away.
We don't want this to happen with Sports.
What are we Doing Differently?
As outlined in our Welcome Post, we want to build upon the great work and experience from within World Of Xpilar and create a community that will last the tests of time and will still be here when any of its creators decides to leave.
Our curation account (@sportscurator01) is owned by all of the administrators (@xpilar, @adeljose, @frafiomatale and me) so no single user will be able to power down and walk away. If the administrators or moderation team changes or grows, each new joiner will also have access to the account's keys.
We have all agreed that the curation account will be used to support the community more than the community's leaders, a simple rule of ensuring that none of its moderators are within the top 3 upvoted users within any single month.
We still encourage users to join our curation trail and delegate to our curation account but instead of this working like a bidbot where we give you higher upvotes and transfer STEEM to you each month, the delegation entitles you to entry to different tiers of contests (e.g. a 10% delegation tier contest will only be available to users who have delegated 10% or more of their STEEM POWER).
I'm sure there's plenty I've forgotten and even more that I haven't thought of yet and I look forward to seeing some of you in WOX Sports as well as here within World Of Xpilar.
Your head is a generator of ideas :) It's a really cool initiative and I especially liked that you didn't create a new community, but did it within the WOX community.
Having a curatorial account will definitely attract new authors. The fact that the curatorial account is in safe hands will ensure that only quality content will be supported. As a result, Steemit will have more and more high-quality sports content.

WOX has a lot of strength and support already and having seen every other sports account powerdown, we saw an opportunity to do something different and hopefully something more sustainable. I dread to think what the Steemit team is thinking when they see so many community accounts that they've supported to the levels that they're at power down. Or essentially become bidbots. I'm sure it's not the future they envisaged.
My hope and expectation is that this will be different. Fingers crossed, curating Sports content has been far more difficult than I had ever anticipated.
