It struck me that Keith Raniere, the coaching guru and founder of elitist self-improvement club NXIVM, is basically the star in a real-life version of The Emperor’s New Clothes. Very rarely have I seen a megalomaniac windbag of these massive proportions.
I believe that Raniere has truly mastered the art of using lots of trendy buzz-words and clever catchphrases without saying anything even REMOTELY substantial – let alone actually helping someone.
But hey – it sounds great so he must be a genius, right?
HBO Max’s 15-part (and counting?) documentary series 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗼𝘄 is a terrifying and very current cautionary tale about the dark side of the personal-empowerment industry.
