Our first stop of our Catlins adventures while we were exploring the wonderful Catlins on the south island of New Zealand.
The Catlins is such a beautiful stretch of the coast line in southern New Zealand between Balclutha and Invercargill. One side you have stunning beaches and coastline and on the other is dense rainforest with breath taking waterfalls.
So let's start with Stop One - Waipapa Point Lighthouse
There is a nice walk from the carpark through the grassy fields up to the old light house.
It was a bit windy as we were on the coastline. None the less the DJI mini 2 handled it pretty well for some drone shots.
This light house was built in 1883 and was first lit on the 1st January 1884. And stands 13.4 meters high.
The light house is surrounded by sand dunes, and the shore of the Southern Ocean.
Next stop South from here is Antarctica. Which explains why it's so bloody cold here haha
As we looked over the cliffs edge we could see Sea lions lined the seaweed swept shore.
Amongst the grass spiders have carefully created these very tight woven nests over night . Which had caught drops of dew.
This was a great first stop on our Catlins journey.
As you can see here on the map there is so many places to stop but we only had one day to explore so we had to choose wisely to get the most out of our day.
So stay tuned for more stops on our Catlins adventures!
Happy travels!!
