Today we are going to talk about the dangers of rubbing the eye and why you shouldn't rub the eye. We do hope you enjoy and have a wonderful read.

Rubbing the Eye

This is the act of using the hand, fingers or palm to rub on the eye by moving the lids back and forth over the eye in response to a stimuli. Normally people tend to rub the eye when foreign body get's into the eye, when the eye gets uncomfortable as a result of an allergen that causes itching and sometimes when the eyes feel tired or we feel tired in general some people tend to rub the eye.

The Dangers Involve

When we rub the eye we move the eyelid and anything else that may be on the eye against the eye ball. Now when you look in the mirror you can see a black part in the middle of your eye ball, for easy understanding so as not to go into details we will refer to this part as the cornea.

Now the cornea is a transparent media which allows light into the eye, thus the blackness you see is basically a whole in the eye, this transparent media is extremely sensitive and anything to it can cause excruciating pain. It is also quite delicate in nature and any form of damage to it can cause permanent scars if care is not taken and should these scars form one could literally loss their vision.

I know you may never have thought about it that rubbing the eye could in anyway cause one to loss the vision but yes it can happen, if you rub the eye especially when something falls on the eye and whichever that thing may be rubs on the cornea and cause damage to it to cause scars then your vision could be permanently affected. So the next question then would be what do i do?

What to do when something falls on the eye

It is very simple, whenever you feel something has gotten into the eye resist the natural impulse to rub the instead hold the upper lid gently and shake it for the object to fall off. If it doesn't and you can still feel it, do well to wash the eye with a lot of clean water, some recommend putting the eye in a bowl full of water and blinking till it comes off.

Do not blow air on to the eye. Also note that the feeling of a foreign body on the eye may persist for while even after it has gone off. Be patient and allow sometime, if it still persist after all this kindly visit the nearest eye care facility immediately for it to be removed. Remember it is better to be safe than sorry.
