Hii... I'm back again with fresh content I would like to share with everyone and henceforth I will be covering a series on the history of the ancient and medieval world. I will be coming your way with the history of Vikings first and this post is only the beginning.
The Vikings
The Vikings sailed in longships from their native Scandinavia to plunder and sometimes colonize large areas of the Northern Hemisphere. Their influence extended from the shores of the Black Sea to the eastern seaboard of North America.
Viking invaders periodically invaded the shores of northern Europe from the eighth to the eleventh centuries CE. The Vikings were pagans from Scandinavia who roamed Europe's oceans and rivers in longships for about 400 years, robbing villages and monasteries, capturing towns, establishing their own realms, and holding entire countries for ransom.
At home in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, the Vikings( also known as Norsemen) were farmers, fishermen, or merchants. Their longships enabled them to buy and sell in distant countries. They traded in furs, precious metals, and foodstuffs such as dried herrings, but above all, they traded in slaves, The very name of the Slav peoples of eastern Europe comes from the word slave, because so many Slavs were captured and sold into slavery by the
Vikings.
This is where I would like to bring my post to an end. I will bring you more content in my next post on the Vikings regarding their attacks on England.
