Ghanaian Food

Another good day is here to share with steemians. It is something incredible to involve you in one of the common meals here in Ghana. Africa indeed has so much beauty to share with the world. If you are looking for one wonderful place to be in Africa, l would want you to consider looking at my beloved homeland, Ghana. Not only will you have so much peace and a serene environment but you will have the best of foods which will always be remembered. Ampesi is one of the local foods you will get introduced to in many Ghanaian homes. Let me take you through a quick summary of its preparation and my love for this meal.

Earlier this week, a colleague l once worked with got invited by someone who requested our visit. Working with like-minded people has always been such a marvelous feeling. I could not hesitate to confirm my presence for this visit. Even though it looked a bit far from home since it involved about 2hours of the drive. But this visit meant a lot to my friend which l took time to be part of this trip. It looks as if my project of visitation in recent times keeps getting better even when l try to end this whole visitation journey. And so an arrangement was made to get us to this place this morning today. Getting here today changed every mood since l finally found out a local meal called ampesi is prepared for us.

Preparation of ampesi

Ampesi is a local food prepared in easy steps. It is one of the easiest food to prepare which do not require so much effort and attention. Unlike fufu which takes so much time, ampsei simply requires getting your saucepan, vegetables, and yams or plantains. Ampesi is made with any type of tubers you prefer. One may choose to make use of yams. Others too will prefer to make ampesi with plantain or cocoyam. Someone may as well prefer to make ampesi with both.
I personally the type of ampesi with just yams. It is one local food l cherish so much. When eaten, l feel extremely good, and stays on me for a very long time before l get hungry again.

However, any stew or sauce is okay to handle ampesi with. You may take it even with soup. It is just a matter of getting your yams peeled off and set on fire in a saucepan to boil for a considerable time. Once it's ready, it is taken off and served directly with the prepared sauce for consumption. I like the sauce made by this lady today with the prepared ampesi. This well-served meal comes with a sauce that is locally made by boiling the various vegetables like pepper, garden eggs, tomatoes, onions grinned together in a local dish. The grinding does not take so much time to complete.

Serving us right

She simply garnished the sauce after grinding with cooked eggs and a big tilapia. Palm oil is added to the sauce to give it a different taste as well. This is what makes the meal she prepared so good. It is purely local especially the way she prepared the sauce. Local food centers get this kind of ampesi prepared most times but they are kind of expensive. And so families prefer to make this type of ampesi in the house where everyone can have a feel at.

You would be surprised to notice that, this prepared ampesi was consumed by 4 of us with the lady who prepared it. At a point, l thought it was going to be difficult to consume all but we hopefully did justice to this. The feeling this morning is awesome after dining together with friends today. It is a meal you simply cannot reject when offered one here in Ghana. I don't mind taking this meal later in the day again. Ampesi is lovely and delicious especially when made with such one l had earlier today.

And so that is how just my day started. It is still young and hasn't ended yet. There many other things and places that we will happily love to visit. But that is because of the excitement l have been fed with already. I really enjoy eating early every day. Just as taken this ampesi so early, that's just how l would always want to be served. It takes me far to handle a lot of tasks within the day before l eat again. Especially if it is a favorite meal like ampesi.
