Our Cultural Heritage Serves As Our Identity

I have a firm belief in african culture and how I think it is the number one contributing factor to how we live our lives as ghanaians within our various societies. We are taught various cultural norms on how we can shape and reform our lives within our very own societies.

This is not something people all over the world are endowed with. Thus, we need to be truly grateful for these as they serve as our identity.

I say this because, all over the world, people recognize Ghanaiansx as people who are always humble and individuals who are well mannered. This comes from traditional rites such as puberty rites, funeral rites, naming ceremonies and so on.

After attending a number of these events, you learn the benefits of following our customary greetings and frequent homage to our hometowns.

Personally, living in the village helped me to appreciate the need to always listen to elderly advice and always pay attention to your surroundings.

I remember when I attended a certain funeral in my hometown and I was instructed to follow a certain pattern when sharing the food. We learn that the family heads are served first before anyone else as a sign of respect and to appreciate their efforts in the society.

I really like the norms of my hometown and that of my people. This is why I believe we are on the right track as Ghanaians and are one of the most culturally oriented Africans out there in the world. Thank you.
