Day 13 of the #BeerCalendar with Corsendonk

Beery times in December - Day 13

This year my family created such a wonderful Xmas beer calendar from me.

I'm so happy about this that I had to post every day a beer. Even better, I have to taste it before...

This means, each day of the cold and dark @detlev get some light and warm feelings by searching for another beer from that big green Box.

13.th of December beer - Corsendonk

Another beer I never had before and a name I will remember.

Now we have to dig even a bit deeper into the green box (where even more of the paint is already going off).

Corsendonk

See a more info about the Corsendonk

This beer has hops aromas on the nose with spices and fruit notes. Spice on the palate with well-balanced bitterness lingering in the finish.

While the monks of Corsendonk started a brewery in 1400, the abbey was closed by an Austrian ruler in 1784. In 1906 Antonius Keersmaekers founded a secular brewery to revive the monks’ brewing traditions. Antonius’ grandson Jef now continues the family tradition of brewing award-winning abbey ales, under a license from the current owners of the abbey. Corsendonk Angus Tripel is one of the brewery’s most famed beers, and is described as an Abbey Pale Ale.

The beer pours a hazy golden color with a two and a half finger soapy white head. The head shows decent retention and leaves an ample lacing once dissipated. The moderately high carbonation level is noticeable.

Aromas of sweet malts dominate the nose. A plethora of fruit notes mingle harmoniously with the malts. Noteworthy fruit notes include stone fruits (peach and apricot), orchard fruits (apple and pear) and white grape. There are light yeast and clove spice aromas as well. Floral, grassy and earthy hops notes add another layer of complexity to the bouquet.

The palate delivers what the nose set the stage for. Sweet bready and malt notes hit first along with fruit notes of apple, pear and white grape. On the mid-palate light clove and pepper spice notes play off the fruitiness and are highlighted by an underlying yeasty component. The finish showcases floral and earthy hop notes. Despite all the flavors that indicate sweetness the beer is dry, similar to a brut champagne.

How does this new DIY calendar work?

It is so simple and cool as well.

My family know what I love and the found a big old box wich they painted in green color. Then they filled with some smooth stuff.

I think they „borrowed“ it from the rabbits from our friends house. As you see, even the cats helped with some work. They did the nice “patina“ to the green color.

A potential thief at my beer?

This dangerous animal try to steal my beer. But I was quickly calling for help and a someone came to fight it.
