Fermented foods is quite known all over the world (based on what I thought) just like kimchi which is famous in Asia and also in other countries. A lot of Filipinos eat fermented foods as well and commonly use as an appetizer or sometimes a main dish to some struggling families.
Mussels or amahong in Visayan dialect is among those fermented foods very famous in the Philippines aside from other fermented seafoods.
The following easy steps will help you make and try the fermented amahong.
We need:
5 tbsp of fermented mussels (you can buy at the market)
1 onion
4 pcs green lemon🍋
1 tbsp vinegar (optional)
2 pcs tomato 🍅🍅
3 pcs red chili 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Simply slice the ingredients into small size and then add all the ingredients to the fermented mussels and mix them well in a bowl.
Make sure the vinegar balanced the saltiness of the fermented mussels as well as the chili blend and the lemon.
Tadaaan! Very simple appetizer. Ready to eat anytime.
This is great with rice, boiled banana and sweet potato and other root crops. Also perfect to any type of foods to be eaten with as long as you are fine with it...
This will make your appetite so good!
