The Best Snack I Love to Make

Hello dear Steemians!
Hope you are all having a great week. I, on the other hand, have returned home after a long exam period. In most cases after I complete my exams, my first destination is the kitchen. Today, my mother and I decided to make mandazi, something I was hankering for.

Mandazi is a popular African dish that was made by the people in the Swahili community. It can be taken for breakfast,as an appetizer or even a light snack at parties. I would like to share how this dish is prepared.

The ingredients that are required;
4 cups of all-purpose flour
1/2 cup of sugar
2 cups of warm water
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon of salt

These ingredients can be adjusted to what you might want. At times, my mom mixes self-raising flour with the all- purpose flour to make it softer. Another tip is to use milk instead of water and to add an egg if you want the mandazi to be fluffy😍.

The next step is to prepare the dough. Combine the flour, baking powder and sugar in a mixing bowl.
Add in water and vegetable oil (all wet ingredients). It should be gradually added while kneading into a dough. The kneading should be done for about fifteen to twenty minutes until a smooth elastic dough is formed. The measurements may not be exact. We tend to add a bit more of the ingredients depending on what the need is. After which, the dough should be left to rest and rise for about fifteen to twenty minutes.
Place the dough on a flat surface prepped with a little flour (this is to ensure the dough does not stick to the surface). Roll out the dough using a rolling pin to about an inch thick. Cut the flattened dough into six equal parts.

Place a pan of oil to heat. You can place a small piece of dough to test out whether it is ready (the dough will rise to the top of the pan and will be surrounded by bubbles). Place the cut pieces of the dough into the oil carefully and only as long as the pieces do not touch one another. Turn them periodically until they turn golden brown.
Let the mandazi cool and drain off the excess oil using serviettes. The madazi will be ready to take with tea.

I hope you all try out this amazing dish😌. Have a blessed rest of the week.
