This is a mirror surgical operation
performed on a male or female to prevent it's ability to have children .
For the males it is called Vasectomy and it is a situation whereby the case deference through sperm travels from the tests to the penis are cut or blocked .
It is done under local anaesthesia .
Female's vsc is know as Bilateral tubal ligation (BTL)
Contraindications of Bilateral tubal ligation.
- In pregnancy
- severe pre-eclampsia/ eclampsia
- 7th day - 42 days post partum
- perperial or post abortion sepsis / fever
- prolonped ruptured of membrance 42hrs or more
- severe APH / PPH
- uterine ruptured or perforation
- severe trauma to the genital tract either by cervical tear or vaginal tear during delivery or abortion
- deep venous thrombosis
- unexplained vaginal bleedy (cervical cancer )
- Stts
PID which is current or win the last 3 months .
Contraindications for vasectomy
- local infection ie sirotal skin infection
- filaratis
- systemic infection or gastroenteritis
- balanitis ( infection of glans penis
- scrotal mass
Pre-operative information for both
- instruct client not to have breakfast on day of operation and also shave and properly site of surgery
- ask client of he/she like to be accomplished to the facility by an adult either the husband or wife.
- that could be prescribed after surgery.
- Instruct on when to resure sexual Intercourse .
Post - operation instructions for vasectomy.
- provide the client with scrotal support for about 48hrs to prevent sowelly / discomfort .
- instruct that client rest from work for about 48hrs after the procedure.
- aviod strenuous work for about 1 week
He should resume sexual Intercourse when he feels comfortable but he should use back up methods for 3weeks until there is negative results on sperm count for 3 weeks consecutive times.
For Bilateral tubal ligation.
- the woman is not bathed after 24hrs until operation site is dry
- if there is any companint ,refer or report to a clinic.
This is a method of Contraception used when sexual intercourse occurs without contraceptive protection .

This method is used for HIV client to prevent pregnancy and infection of other strains of HIV and STIs .
