Batik clothes are now mandatory clothing in Indonesia. Batik is a cloth that is specially processed through certain stages. Types and patterns of batik have their respective meanings and philosophies. On October 2, 2009 UNESCO declared batik as a world heritage. Therefore, since then the President declared October 2 as the day of batik and appealed to the Indonesian people to wear batik. Until now, in every traditional event or special event, batik is often used as a typical clothing in Indonesia. Batik clothing has now become the only traditional clothing that has a distinctive characteristic, meaning, and has a good philosophy in it.

The diversity of Indonesian batik is unique. Craftsmen can customize batik according to their needs. There is batik that is used for holding babies, for clothes, sarongs, table mats and many others. Currently, all offices, both private and public, and schools have made it mandatory for workers to wear batik.

The Process of Sewing Batik Clothes

On this occasion I would like to share how to cut and sew a tunic. The shirt I'm going to make is a batik tunic that will be worn during the graduation ceremony on April 10, 2021. Yesterday I received a photo from my customer.

1. Cut the material

The materials needed to cut and sew a tunic are:

  1. 2 meter long batik cloth
  2. Scissors
  3. Measuring tool
  4. Yarn
  5. Newspaper to make patterns

Here I will start with a photo of cutting out the batik material.

2. Sewing

After everything is finished, cut according to the pattern, continue with sewing. Sewing is the process of putting together pieces of cloth to form a character or model. Here I will combine these pieces of cloth into clothes that will be worn later. In sewing, it takes a lot of patience and thoroughness to get maximum results.
