When it comes to plants, results don't happen overnight. I would say it is a matter of patience and dedication more than anything else.
As you may know, during the state of emergency, the isolation caused several businesses to close down and new ones to open. For example, where I live there is a place called "La lombriz feliz", where they make and sell small-scale fertilisers, plants, seeds and other things. After quoting prices one day I went to visit them... Before, we will see the steps prior to sowing.
This technique is widely used to disinfect substrates and with the intention of reusing them. In this case, the substrate was obtained after harvesting the plants. I removed the leftover roots and some pebbles and collected the substrate in a transparent bag. I flattened it evenly and it was there for about 1 month (30 days of sun).*
The radiation that enters the substrate kills all kinds of living things (pathogens and beneficials), that's why I took the time to remove the piglets and some insects before the solarisation.
Mini casa malla / mini mesh house
I used the old cat house to give a structure to what would become the mesh house. I lined it with mesh, plastic and a thin fabric to let the wind through. This was to insulate the plants from insects and reduce the spread of disease.
La siembra / sowing
In a small container I placed moss and prepared soil. I moistened it and then added the chard seeds. Then I placed it in the mini net house for 2 weeks. Over the course of the days I watered when the substrate started to dry out.
El transplante / the transplant
Beforehand, I separated some small tubs and lined them with kangaroo pouches. I also brought irrigation water and fertilisers. Together with the supervisor.
For the transplanting I used the following substrates, which were added in layers.
- Sawdust, to provide aeration.
- Prepared soil and earthworm humus, to provide the nutrients that the seedlings will require.
- Moss, so that the substrate retains water and is watered sparingly.
Once I had obtained the seedlings, I transplanted them at a distance of 10cm between seedlings, using the so-called "three bolillo" planting method (forming a triangle).
¡Nos vidrios!
