I wonder if Covid has forever changed how we see movies. Regal cinemas and others have filed bankruptcy and closed their doors. AMC is being propped up by WSB and movie studios have gotten creative in their releases. WB has paired with HBO/Max to show a movie on that platform while simultaneously releasing it in whatever few theaters are left. Amazon simply launches it on Prime. Some have gone to Google or Redbox or all of them at once.
The price difference is noticeable. Where one ticket before cost $15.99/per person plus the cost of your snacks and drinks now it's $19.99 for the night. The pairing with HBO/Max has put the charges even lower, $15.99 for an entire month. The amount of money that used to be charged versus what is currently charged is shocking.
How can new movies afford to be made? Are we done with the $100 million dollar opening weekends? Are new movies going to be controlled by what platform you subscribe to? I noticed that Apple has some movies that are only available through their platform. Is this going to be the new normal? No more red carpet events? No more dressing like your favorite character and heading into the theater with a 100 of your closest friends at midnight? Is this going to be relegated to the annals of history like corded phones and going to the mall?
