Assalamualikum. I am @hasnahena. Today I have written about identification of intellectual disability.
Although the word intellectual disability is less familiar to many people, children with intellectual disabilities are probably not strangers to anyone. They are known to common people by different names. Mental retardation is not a disability, nor is it madness or mental illness. They are less intelligent than many others. But based on this single characteristic, the identity of the intellectually disabled is not fully revealed. Just as normal children learn from early childhood, most children with intellectual disabilities learn these things with varying degrees of delay; some have peculiarities in appearance and behavior. We recognize intellectual disabilities based on these different characteristics. We know that after birth, the baby grows slowly. But growth in size is not the only process. At the same time, another process is going on, what we can call - development.

Development is the qualitative change in a child's condition and the progressive change in behavior from birth to adulthood. That is, children cannot behave in all ways at birth, and they do not have the ability. One is born with the aptitude to behave in certain ways and thus behaves in a particular way. For example, they can move their hands and feet, suck something with their mouth, etc. As age increases, more behavioural competence is acquired. Such as being able to sit, speak, etc. This process of child development usually continues until the age of 18. During this period, all possible behaviors are attained. Note that the competencies acquired at this time serve as the basis for later versatile behavior.

Intellectual function refers to perceiving something by seeing, hearing, or touching: thinking, reasoning, and solving problems. Solving any problem and dealing successfully with the environment requires intellectual ability. Children with intellectual disabilities have these abilities significantly lower than they should be for their age. As a result, they cannot behave in a way suitable for adapting to society, study, and even sometimes do not understand their own good and bad. Intellectually disabled children who have this type of disability can recognize between birth to three years.

What society should do:
People with intellectual disabilities have an equal share in each of the personal and social rights that we enjoy as a member of society. As an able person, we often take advantage of the disabilities of disable peoples. But it is our responsibility to ensure their rights in all areas and their comfort. A little sympathy is enough for the family with a disabled child living with endless suffering. If we stand beside them with a positive attitude, and extend the hand of friendship, then their morale will increase many times. It will be possible to build a society for all together. Awareness will develop among everyone everywhere.
