What are the dates?

Dates are fruits of the date palm tree, originally from the Middle East but now grown in the Mediterranean, Asia, the USA, and Mexico.

Atop the tops of these palm trees, they hang in large clusters. As the fruit ripens, its skin turns brown and wrinkles as moisture escapes. Usually, they are harvested by hand, either by climbing up the palm or using a mechanical lift.
New types of dates are best between November and January, but dried dates are available all year.
