Why I Cherish Canada

This is a follow up to a previous post to clarify a point for @abu78 -"was expecting to see more write up about why you cherish your country the most."|

I have a problem. When I attempt to be brief, I become obscure.

Canada is too big for a single post but here goes. I cherish the hardships in Canada.

It is literally true that people's homes and vehicles can be buried in a single snowfall. Dozens of homeless people in one city (Toronto) freeze to death on the streets. People have died within a block of their homes.

For most people, Canada means neatly manicured streets and beautiful skylines. Canada has the most plentiful supply of water in the world. We have pristine lakes and rivers. During the summers, Canada has the most temperate temperatures. People can go hiking, sailing or indulge in the nightlife in the cities especially the one mentioned above.

During the winter though, we search the southern horizon for the least bit of sun. The person who most appreciates a glass of water is the person dying of thirst. When I was an adult, I worked all the time. Often I would awaken to start working at 7 am, work all day and evening until 2 am the next morning only to start at 7 am again. When I was a teenager, I often had to climb up a ramp and lie in the filth of cow manure replacing a chain that had jumped its sprocket because it does that sort of thing at -20 degrees. When I would scrape my knuckles, because that is what you do at -20 degrees, the blood immediately freezes on the skin but the would feels like it is being probed with a red hot poker.

Why to I appreciate the hardships of Canada? Who appreciates water without the thirst!
