Students of SMPN 1 Simpang Mamplam Bireuen, Still Wear Sarongs on Fridays.

The atmosphere at State Junior High School (SMPN) 1 Simpang Mamplam Bireuen, is unique compared to other schools especially on Fridays.

Every Friday, all students, both male and female, wear sarongs, male students wear white shirts and sarongs plus peci. While the female students in white shirts also wear sarongs to school.

They are used to it and have long worn sarongs every Friday and one of the characteristics of a city of santri.

In the morning, hundreds of students come to their school wearing sarongs, as do their teachers. They immediately enter the school and gather in the school yard to follow a series of activities every Friday.

Routine activities carried out on Fridays include reading the Yasin with teachers, the Prophet's salawat, deepening tahfiz and also other fields. After activities in the school yard, they immediately go into the study room as usual and still wear sarongs until the teaching and learning process is complete.

Head of UPTD SMPN 1 Simpang Mamplam, Yusnelly SPd said, several years ago, the Regent of Bireuen, Dr. H. Muzakkar A Gani SH MH issued a policy every Friday for ASN, teachers and students to wear sarongs to the office and to school as part of Bireuen as a city of santri.

Responding to the policy, SMPN 1 Simpang Mamplam implemented it well and continues until now.

"Every Friday, students and teachers continue to wear sarongs and carry out activities as usual, starting with reading the Yasin in the middle of the field, the number of students reaches 343 students," he said.

The implementation of students wearing sarongs also received support from the school committee, parents and the community, especially since Bireuen has long been designated as a city of santri.

"The school committee responded to our aspirations as teachers and also continued the regent's policy at that time," he said.
