Wednesday.
Time for another walk!
I had noticed this gravel pit lake on the maps quite a while ago and I've been meaning to explore it ever since. It's quite a distance to walk all the way out there but Hazel and myself felt ready for a challenge today.
We certainly wouldn't get lost. The way there is pretty much just one long straight line along a well maintained trail through the forest. Four kilometers straight ahead without a single bend.
I usually try to avoid theses kinds of routes. It's always more exciting to explore a less travelled path or leave the trail all together, but today we had to cover the distance first and the shortest route between two points is a straight line.
Despite the boring route, there's still always something to discover in the forest. This interesting looking mushroom by the side of the road for example.
It's Wednesday, though, not Friday.
We ventured on to find the gravel pit and after about an hour of walking head on we finally reached the destination. Sort of...
BADUMM
The area is completely fenced off and decorated with a variety of NO ENTRY signs all around. We went along the fence for a while to try and find a vista of the location but this is the best I could get:
Oh well, the walk was the mission and we did it. So that's a mission accomplished.
The weather had cleared up and the afternoon sun was giving the first yellowing leaves a vibrant glow.
Yeap, autumn has arrived. But the air still tastes like summer!
It was time to walk the line backwards into familiar territory. But not before making a few more little discoveries.
Some trees by the side of the trail looked like they've been injured by heavy forestry equipment several times.
But scars can really add a lot of character and if you're easily experiencing #pareidolia you'll understand why I'll want to come back here with some adequately sized googly eyes.
Finally, I made the find of the day. A beloved little mossy tree stump by the wayside, inhabited by a vibrant green clover.
And If you dare to step off the path you'll find, it's actually a tree of clover growing on a canvas of moss. To me, that's totally an amazing find, well worth the 18k steps we clocked today.
Thanks for your time!
