This photo is for my friend @elizabethbit, she asked why the old well was closed in such a way and I have a theory. This is one of the windiest capitals in the world, that means that we often have issues with rubbish flying around. I believe they closed it that way so that rubbish wouldn't get in and wouldn't accumulate on top. It's highly likely this well is still currently part of the old towns water network and we wouldn't want rubbish in our water now would we. 😔
