Happy 4th of July! It is a big holiday here in the U.S. I always take most of the day to do projects or gardening and then I get together with family for a meal and then fireworks.
It was another very full day of gardening — in the heat! — but I could not pass up the opportunity to work in a certain garden area that had become completely overwhelmed by a very nasty and invasive weed. By the time I pulled it all out, my wheelbarrow was piled almost two feet high with the weeds. (I should have taken a picture!) And my face was red as a beet from the heat. It was about 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Fortunately, the garden I was working in had a lot of shade, and there was a breeze.
But wow, a shower felt good!!
After that I made my award-winning potato salad. (Okay, it has not actually won any awards. But it should.) And then we went to my sister’s house for dinner. Coincidentally, it is also @preparedwombat’s house, as he is married to my sister. 😁
The plan was to eat out on their lovely patio, but everyone wanted air conditioning because it was still so hot, so we sat inside. The meal and conversation were so lovely. I am blessed to have such a wonderful family!
Then there was a big decision to make. My sister’s family had the kind of fireworks you can set off in your backyard, but my husband and I had set up a viewing spot for the big fireworks down on the lakeside (which is walking distance from their house). So the majority opted for the backyard, and me and my husband strolled down to the waterfront.
Funny, I had secured a lakeside fireworks viewing spot 12 hours before when there was only a handful of people around, and now there were thousands settled into chairs and blankets all across the park at the edge of the lake.
