My Actifit Report Card: March 16 2021steemCreated with Sketch.

Got a lot of writing done today, though I wasn’t as productive as I could have been. I really need to work on getting started in the morning and not letting myself loiter.

The Year of a Million Words project I’m working on needs me to write something like three thousand words a day to get back on track because I was bad for most of January. I’ve been making excellent progress, but ideally I’d be trying to get more over the bare minimum threshold to bring it down more quickly and give myself more breathing room.

Of course, it’s mostly for personal satisfaction. That means that it’s not the end of the world if I don’t succeed, but one thing about undertaking a goal of that magnitude is that if you get close and then fall short it’s particularly devastating.

I’ve been lagging in my game work because I’ve been perhaps a tad too focused on the rules side of things. Since I haven’t seriously written game rules in something like a year now, that’s not great.

One thing I’ve started doing to remedy this is to work on stuff outside the original planned order and do more setting elements. I’m starting off by writing blurbs for each of the major continents in the game world, in part because this is a good focusing tool for when I add more details to each and also because it might help move me toward doing some small fiction pieces that will break up the chapters.

This means that I’ll probably break the 20k word mark on Exoworld tomorrow, if I’m able to get to it after my other stuff. I’m going to (hopefully) polish off my MFA work for the week, plus do my regular weekly post for @kwilleywrites. You’d think I might at some point write those ahead of time, but I keep so busy that I never really find an opportunity to.

I got emailed an advanced copy of a book to write a review for it. Normally I don’t do such things out of the blue, just because the incentive for me is fairly low (even if I get people to buy stuff through an Amazon affiliate link, which is not as profitable as people make it out to be) but since I’m trying to get better at finding new content for my blog, I figure I’ll take a shot at it.

Plus, I’m going to be asking the same favor of people in the future. I’m not a believer in the idea of karma, but I do like to think that I can help people in the way I’d like to be helped and build potential future relationships while improving what we see as the norm for behavior.

I’ve only read a little, but it seems interesting. I don’t regret the decision. The author was very apologetic about it being 100k words, but I need some reading material for while I pace around the house, anyway. If I’m not reading something, I always get the feeling that my neighbors are looking in through my windows and wondering if I’ve finally lost it.

Of course, me getting that feeling might mean they’d be right.
