Hello Steemians!
I am writing this a day late, which you will understand why. I had very busy day today. A day prior, I decided to to go the mechanic and get things done which my car was screaming for about a month. I along with my friend, who also had some stuff to be done with his car, went to the mechanic in our own cars.
We spent almost all day with the mechanic when in the evening my friend told me that he was not feeling well. I took him lightly and engaged him in trite. At night when we were about to leave the mechanic's shop, I noticed that he indeed was not feeling well. As I touched his forehead, I realized he had severe temperature. He started complaining about body pain and migraine. We decided that I will park my car in the home (which was around 10-12 km from the mechanic shop) and then I'll take him to the hospital. But he insisted that I go home and take class and he'll go to the hospital by himself (but I knew he was in no shape to drive himself). As we were driving back to back on Srinagar Highway in Islamabad, I noticed that his car went to extreme left and then he took a hard right to keep himself on the track. After parking my car in home, he confessed that he slept for a second or two and only God saved him from hitting the railing. Thus, he decided to let me drive him to the hospital.
Thus, at 8:30 pm we set off for Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). After the regular check-up from the doctor on duty, the doctor directed the nursing staff to admit the patient (my friend) into the ward, as he was burning with fever, on a drip. Canola was installed on his hand, connected with bottle from where the water dripped into his veins.
After which my friend took a breath of relief and slept for about 20 minutes. As he woke up, the bottle of dripping water was about to be finished. After that we were relieved from the hospital.
On the way back to home, my friend again starting complaining. Thus, instead of going home and going to PIMS again, we went to medical center of our university, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) at around 11:30 pm. The doctor at duty advised us to let him sleep as his fever was soaring as high as 103 (Celsius). Afterwards, my friend went to the bathroom, vomited, went to the bed and slept. After sleeping soundly for an hour, the doctor woke him up, gave him medicine and tried to lower his body temperature but all went vain. Thus, the doctor again referred us to PIMS but this in protocol, in the university ambulance. Thus again we set off to PIMS at about 1:30 am.
We reached PIMS, checked-up with a specialist doctor. The doctor warned us of which we were already afraid, The Dengue Fever.
The nursing staff took the sample of his blood and directed me to deposit them into the laboratory. And I snapped when I saw a long, very long queue at the laboratory. Tens of people were there either to collect the sample results or to submit the samples. Waiting for around 2 hours, my turn came up, submitted the samples successfully and was directed to receive the sample results at 10 in the morning. However, during all this time, my friend was sleeping peacefully and soundly in the ambulance.
Finally, the ambulance dropped us at the university from where I loaded my friend into the car and rushed back to home. At around 4 am, we reached home and slept like there is no tomorrow.
But as I said earlier, I had a job to do which was receiving the reports which were to determine whether my friend had the dengue fever or not. The next morning, I checked up on my friend, as he was sleeping, I set off for PIMS. I was utterly dismayed, the queue for getting the test results was very long. After standing in queue for 2 long hours, in sheer heat and continuous racketing I got the results. As I saw the "NEGATIVE" in the result, I forgot all about my sleepless night, energy-draining day & sweaty face as the inexpressible joy rushed through my veins.
At the end of day, we celebrated the result by eating mutton in a restaurant, a treat from the patient himself.
