Celebrating International Women's Day |

These days, so many people only think International Women's Day is all about posting some statuses on Facebook or simply wishing 'Happy Women's Day.' But I think it means more than that. International Women’s Day is an opportunity to draw attention toward the reality of our lives—the reality in which, to be a woman, we need to fight many small and big battles on a daily basis.
I’ve faced this reality many times myself. At early age, we learn how to walk, how to sit and how to talk. It’s like we’re not permitted to go outside a particular box. Then as we become adults, the box expands. Not only in the personal domain but in careers as well, where women have to prove every day that we can do it, we are capable and we are skilled. But men don’t have to bear this weight.
Such form of gender discrimination is still exists in our society, where being born as a girl of a family leads to several limitations at all stages of life. If a girl is very ambitious about her career, people quote saying, ''You’re a woman, managing the household is your real job.'' But if she does the household stuff, they say, ''You sit at home all day, what do you actually do?'' Women are never totally accepted into society. This double standard is precisely why women still don’t have equal rights.
But change is coming, and it is coming through us. Looking at the women surrounding us—who are overcoming their struggles and progressing, who are paving the way not just for themselves but for other women as well. I feel we can do it. Our mothers and sisters have fought, we fight, and the women of the future will fight twice as hard.
International Women’s Day is not only a day of celebration. It is a day for us to question ourselves—have we really accorded equal rights fir us? Has our society stood by a woman and said, ''We want you to achieve your dreams?'' If the answer is 'no, "we have work to do."

One day, I hope we will build a society where a woman is not just a woman, but where she is a important person. Where our decisions are respected, our work is valued and we don't have to fight over and over to make our dreams come true. That day, we will all work together, push forward together—Shine Together, Shining Together.
