Letting go of emotional control can indeed be hard; it can also be rewarding. Let me now share with you some personal stories of how I learned to let go and perhaps give some advice that may help others who find themselves in similar situations.

My Journey to Letting Go

Of course, I once felt like wanting to control most of my emotional sides. I believed that this would help keep pain away and at least try to be stable all the time. However, this way proved mostly to leave me overtly stressed and disconnected from my real self.

I remember one such situation in my life where, on the job, I was assigned to a very big project. That keen urge inside of me just wanted to do everything perfectly and to be in control of literally every little detail to make it successful. Well, things did not precisely go in that direction; some bumps were there along the way, and frustration began gathering, and my stress level was sky-high.

It came to a turning point when I finally understood that trying to control emotions was like trying to hold water in one's hands- the tighter they were held onto, the more slippery they got away. I eventually began to understand that emotions are natural and that it is all right to feel them fully-even the uncomfortable ones.

A few of these steps included:

  • Letting: Let the emotions be there, it was the acknowledgment of their presence without judgment; neither good nor bad, so let them be. This had been my first step toward letting go.

  • Being there: Mindfulness had been very helpful in being there but observing your emotions and not getting over the same. Deep breathing and meditation were two techniques that were quite helpful.

  • Expression of Feelings: I found healthy ways of expressing my emotions, either by talking to a trusted friend or writing in a journal or through any other creative activities. This made me release pent-up feelings and gain clarity.

  • Self-Compassion: I learned to be kind to myself. This New method I tried make it more easier for me to let go of the need for control ,once this was an acknowledgement that feeling emotional ups and downs was okay.

  • Looking for Support: Normally talking to a counselor or joining a group that will support us can provide us with valuable insights and encouragement.

Let's all just have in mind that looking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

My Advice for Those Going Through This

If you know that you are still struggling with letting go of emotional control, here are a few pieces of advice from me:

  • Be Patient with Yourself: Change doesn't happen in seconds or overnight. Instead Be gentle with yourself and give time to get accustomed to it.

  • Focus on the Present: Try to live in the present. Worrying about the past or future makes anxiety progress and makes it harder to let go.

  • Practice self-care: Do things you may find pleasurable or soothing. Good physical and mental self-care lightens the emotional burden.

  • Connect with others: Sometimes it helps to talk about what you have been through or how you're feeling with others. You don't have to walk this path alone.

Remember, emotional release is not ignoring of your feelings; it's all about embracing them with compassion and understanding. It is the movement toward more emotional freedom and wellness.
