Hello Steemians! Greetings to you all. Once again, I hope we are all doing well and staying safe in these difficult times.
I am here once again with yet another entry to theshoppinggame. It is Wednesday here in Ghana and the weather is around 26 degree Celsius. I tend to prefer this te to hotter temperatures. I made plans to go for shopping within the week and as the day seemed promising, I said why not today.
Before I went to shop, I had to take my sister to the hospital for a checkup as she has been having dental issues. The Bantama market was just a stone throw away and this is why I opted to shop there.
Market Outlook
It is about 3 minutes walking distance from the hospital to the market. And about 40 minutes from my house to the market.
Initially, I had decided to get only get some plantain and fish to prepare supper. And if you've been following my #theshoppinggame posts, you would notice that I tend to buy more when the rates are cool to save some money.
Entering the market
I know these big markets tend to have lower prices but the sizes of the vegetables even gingered me more (big big carrots and cucumbers). I also got some tomatoes, fishes, onions, pepper as well as the plantains, cucumbers and carrots. Let me take you through where I bought the various items.
I bought the plantains from this lady.
I bought the carrots here. The sizes of her carrots were big and also attractive. Multiple people were really buying her stuff and as you can see, her pan is almost empty. Good day for her.
This is where I saw those big cucumbers. I really like having them in my meal as they are of good nutritional value. They also tatse great as well.
This is where I bought my fish.
I bought some extra stuff along the way and I'll show them below.
Carrots, cucumbers, plantains and tomatoes.
Fishes, onions and pepper.
Like I said I have a habit of buying more to save cost in the long run.
My expenditure is as follows
Items(quantity) | Price(ghs) | Price(usd) |
---|---|---|
Fish (6) | 10 | 1.7 |
Tomatoes (all) | 4 | 0.68 |
Pepper (all) | 3 | 0.51 |
Onions (7) | 2 | 0.34 |
Plantains (4) | 5 | 0.85 |
Cucumber (6) | 3 | 0.51 |
Carrots (5) | 3 | 0.51 |
Total | 30 | 5.1 |
Total value in steem is 25.5 .
Thank you for your continuous support @steemingcurators, @steemcurator01 and all steemians as well. I haghly appreciate it.

Actually I am more interested in that "mushroom" visible in the picture of "cucumber". That's damn tasty, here that is too much costly, like $3.5 per KG. But that is my favorite and my mother used to prepare dishes out o f it. But I rarely find it here these days. In winter I will get it. Don't you eat that "mushroom"? What is the cost there?
You really got a very healthy selection of vegetables, cucumber & carrot are my favorite because we can take it raw and they are full of nutrients.
Plantains seem very expensive there(if I compare), not looking that fresh either. But always good for health, being a potassium-rich fruit.
Have a great day.
Steem on.

Yes, mushrooms are of great nutritional value but I don't think my taste buds like them so much. Many ghanaians tend to use it in preparation of soup and a good number of people like them as well.
As for the price, it varies from season to season and from seller to seller. That is how most goods (not just foodstuffs) are sold here. Items are not also sold in kg. A number of mushrooms(say 5) could be sould by a seller for like $0.45 and another seller could sell at $0.5. Also, at the moment, plantains are not booming here and that is why they seem pricy.
Another example is that, this season all those tomatoes went for $0.68, but in another season just two could be sold to you for about $0.40. That is how the price system in Ghana is. Good health is very keen to the state of mind and one's body.
Thank you for visiting my post my friend.
