A toxic relationship is one in which one or both partners engage in patterns of behavior that cause harm, either physically or emotionally, to the other person. Such a relationship can be damaging to one's mental health and well-being, and can lead to feelings of low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and even trauma.

Examples of toxic relationships include those in which one partner is physically abusive, constantly belittles or criticizes the other, controls the other's behavior, isolates them from friends and family, or uses manipulation or guilt to get what they want. It can also include relationships where one partner is emotionally unavailable or regularly gaslights the other.

Have you or any close friend ever been in a toxic relationship? Share your experiences.

Personally, I have had friends who have been in toxic relationships. One friend was in a relationship with someone who was emotionally manipulative and constantly made her feel guilty for things that were not her fault. This caused her a lot of anxiety and made her feel like she was never good enough. Another friend was in a relationship with someone who was physically abusive, which caused her a great deal of emotional trauma and made it difficult for her to trust anyone.

What are some Coping strategies for victims of a toxic relationship?

Coping strategies for victims of a toxic relationship include seeking support from trusted friends or family members, seeking counseling or therapy, setting boundaries with the toxic partner, and practicing self-care activities such as exercise, meditation, and engaging in hobbies or activities that bring joy.

As a counsellor, what advice will you give victims of a toxic relationship?

As a counselor, my advice to victims of a toxic relationship would be to prioritize their own well-being and safety. This may mean ending the relationship, seeking a restraining order, or seeking professional help to deal with the emotional trauma caused by the toxic relationship. It is also important to understand that leaving a toxic relationship can be difficult, and it is important to have a support system in place to help with the process. Finally, it is important to recognize that healing from the trauma of a toxic relationship can take time, and it is important to be patient and compassionate with oneself during this process.

I would like to invite my friends @erode, @everestjay and @echoo to this contest.
Best regards @ajay27,
I'm officially verified achievement1 by newcomers community.

Your suggestion on how you will advise someone in a toxic relationship as a counselor is the same i will do as a counselor too.
