Hello Dear Steemians.
It's an amazing opportunity to participate in a creative writing contest like this on the topic Eduction at a time like this when a lot is falling apart and in addition, the start of a new academic year in Cameroon makes a topic like this very timely.
I wish to start by recognizing the efforts of @thegreens for coming up with an initiative like this and for also making sure that the @steem-cameroon community grows.
Eduction as we know is one major thing that sets humans apart from beasts and to me I believe that education is about being exposed to different opinions which is different from schooling but owes a huge proposition to schooling.
In Cameroon, the Educational system starts from pre-nursery to nursery, primary, secondary school, high school, university and professional or vocational schools and all these Eduction sectors plays a very vital rule in influencing not just the career part or choice of a child but also helps to shape a child's future intentionally and since the younger generation is the future of tomorrow's leadership, each educational phase in the life of a young person should be handled carefully.
If I were made Minister of Education in Cameroon,
I will make two major reforms.
✓ All teachers will have their salaries increased. Why I say this is because growing up in my community, most families actually saw sending their kids to ENS because they believed that ENS was a path that would help ease a financial burden on them. However, when most of these young folks return from ENS and start working, their financial situation almost never change and in most cases these young teachers will have to engage in many other extra curricular activities just to make ends meet for them and their families and before you know it, their focus on teaching starts fading away, they start missing classes and subsequently students end up not learning much in an entire school year.
A second reason why I would increase the salaries of teachers is because the future of a nation lies in the Educational system and every professional that grows up to form a nation is trained by a teacher and paying a teacher peanuts as is the case in a country which has much is embarrassing and a sign of disregard to the noble profession.
✓ The second reform reform I will institute is making sure that every child before going to the University should have proof of a skill in tech and another skill of their choice.
Why this is so important because you can't build a country of intellectuals who can only memorize and not think or produce. Secondly, technology is the future and if we would want our country to advance in this area, digital skills would be a must at all levels of school. This will also help most students to start thinking of how they can be useful to themselves even while still in school.
Conclusively, as a Minister of Education, I feel that having an Educational system with well paid teachers will mean more focus on students and helping all young people learn Digital skills will help prepare them for the future that lies ahead of them and make them Face it with confidence since digital skills are the future.
Thanks for reading.
Wow, proof of Tech skill and a skill of your choice. This is a brilliant idea and i've never thought about something like this but its just too amazing. We have a lot of intelligent Cameroonians with almost no skills.
Brilliant idea here @asangazinwi
