Ironically before now the meta quarter road stretch has been one of the most problematic roads in the city of Bamenda. WHY?
Many engineers and contractors have passed through this road stretch for construction and maintenance purposes but their works get deteriorated after a week or few others. Whereas their projects stipulate at least 5 years of existence.
Some say the road is cursed. Well in Engineering themes and codes of ethics, the work they all do is cheap work and will definitely not last. The authorities that be in any case have not remedied the situation at all, one could say they instead promote the poor work being done by looking for incompetent contractors.
The Hospital Roundabout on its part is so called because it is the Roundabout that links directly to the regional hospital of Bamenda. This place since the crises started has been a point where most of the gunshots start around town start. Its a scary zone where many people do not want to have any contact with.
But ironically again there are still businesses operating there at full level. At least its the main road to the hospital so it cannot go long dead.
Today I share some images of the streets and its contents to the Hospital Roundabout in a general case of Saturdays at 5pm.
Live the moments with me on tbe following images taken with a Samsung Note 9
Store frontage broken down in a but to expand the road but no work done yet. The proprietors of some of these buildings cant just take another step without knowing the fprm of the road. Many others are even left in worst states. One can say the srteet has lost its taste.
You can have a glance of beds on the other sides of the road. Well its equally the street of great carpenters in the city, if you want the vest beds and sofas, no other place than Meta Quarter.
Imagine the hassle of these drivers with such potholes everywhere. As a passenger passing through it for 5 minutes, I already have body pains, imagine a driver going through it for the whole day. Bofy pains ohh!
Meta quarters is equally known as the street of coffins! lol. Its here that most coffins in the city are made, ambulances and flowers from the dead all rented. The guys that dance at fumerals are on this street.
I remember this joke made once; someone said ots the dead people causing the road unfixed. That they are angry with the prople that carry them and thus they punish them with bad roads.
Barely no stretch of this road exists with a drop of tar anymore. What a pity. A major stretch linking a great institution to the rest of the city.
The storey building we are all seeing used to be the Awa and Sons Building. It used to be one pf Bamenda's finest photography house. I even took a picture there during my primary 6 graduation. I told my mother Awa and Sons or no picture.
Well the recent development plan has to bring down the building in order to increase the road.
The mother sits at a moblie money kiosk in front of the gate of Pledge Bilingual Nursery and Primary School. One of the city's most expensive schools for primary education. Well the inner campus can speak for itself, its made of glass windows and doors, paved surroundings, bouncers at the gate.
That is Dreamlamd Cabaret. It used to be one of the first places in town where lif music was done. Most parents used to chop life there. Bottle dance, makosssa, salsa was and is still the genre there.
"Burning corn". The girl sitted is roasting maize. Its some delicious roadside food sold fro. 50 to 200frs for a stick. Mostly done in the rainy season but we also have dry season corn.
I almost got hit taking this picture by a bike. These are bikes with passengers from the Bamenda food market. Parents leaving the market back home after a long day of trying to get some coins for the family.
That's what Meta Quarter to Roundabout looks like most part of the times. An interesting city no matter the negative aspects. The people still love their place and hope those in authority try to sort out the wrongs.
