My best among the best, anytime the name is mentioned, all other food shall bow.. what food is that? It's GARRI 🥰

Last year probably may or June, there was a particular challenge called garri challenge on social media. In the challenges the participant will post a collage picture with bag of garri and ask his or her audience to choose between her and the bag of garri.

Going through the comments section, a lot people choose garri instead of the Poster, that is to show you how important garri is to human. Garri is a lifesaver, for common man.

A little introduction: my name is @mhizta from Nigeria, am happy to participate in this contest to share those food that makes me keep yearning for more. If this your first time in my blog, you're welcome.

Am going to share my favourite food in the week, how I got it, why I like it, ingredients and step in preparing it, the history behind it, and the nutritional value. Am only asking for one favor, endeavor to read to the end. Now let's begin with my favourite meal of the week.

What was your favourite meal of the week?

Throughout the week, I have eaten a lot of meals, egusi soups, okro soup, ewesu and amala(Yoruba dishes), rice, beans, and other delicious food or meals, but i want to choose one of it which make me keep yearning for more, and its Garri, I know its crazy but i choose it as my favourite meal of the week, this garri can be used as eba or just for drinking. there's 2 type of GARRI; white garri and yellow garri.

white GarriIMG_20240416_130955_235.jpgyellow garriIMG_20240416_130721_886.jpg

White Garri is whitish in color and it also come in 2 type which is:

  • ♦️For drinking
  • ♦️For eba

Yellow garri is also yellow is colour, it's can also be use for both drinking and eba, but most people prefer the white garri because of its uniqueness. So am going to talk about drinking garri which is white garri.

Did you prepare it or order from a restaurant?

No na, how can I be ordering garri, though you can order it, but I bought mine in a shop, I bought 1 full paint of garri at the rate of three thousand naira (4,000) white is approximate 13.8 steem.

This are the measurements of Garri in my area and the prices:

half geriga4001.2 steem
geriga8002.9 steem

half paint20006.9

Apart from buying measurements, there's also some of it in small amounts Like 100 naira, 200 and so on. you can decide to garnish your drinking garri with groundnut, milk, coconut sugar and smoke fish, that's if you have money, but for common man, garri, sugar and milk is okay(my thought).

Why do you like this particular meal?

One thing I like about garri is that it's not expensive, like I said if you can't afford measurements but can opt for the small quantity like 100-200 naira.

It's a general food in my country, because I have never heard someone saying that he or she doesn't like Garri unless he's born in a silver spoon. Both the poor and the richest can drink it.

The tastes if garri especially the white one is spectacular, in a dry season, you can just use small quality of garri with one full cup of cold water. That's why most time, my mum might not want to drink the garri, but she won't miss the garri's water.

You can use groundnut, coconut, smoked fish, smoked chicken, milk, sugar etc to drink your garri.

Mention the ingredients used and step by step process of preparing this meal

Drinking garri doesn't require much ingredients but it all depends on how you want your garri to be. As I said earlier, you can use smoke fish, smoke chicken, sugar, ice block, milk, coconut, groundnut and so on to drink your garri.

the step is making it is very simple and going to show how I made my drinking garri.

♦️I put a small quantity of garri in a cup

♦️I added sugar and cold pure water

♦️I stir it

♦️I added groundnut

Simple as that, my drinking garri is ready, you can use ice blocks that's if you can afford it and other thing I mentioned.

Is there any history behind this particular meal?

I don't know much about the history, the little I know is that Garri is derived from cassava, which is staple crop in West Africa for centuries.

From the history, the process of making garri was developed in the 18th century by the Yoruba people in Nigeria and it's popular in other West African countries like Ghana and other country.

What is the nutritional value of drinking garri?

This one is very important because our health is what matters most, drinking garri doesn't have too much nutritional value apart from the carbohydrates as a source of energy. it's all depends on what you use or supplement, for example using milk, fish and coconut.

For example I use water, sugar and groundnut, the nutritional value is protein, vitamins and minerals, iron, calcium.

But what I want to say is, we know that anything in life have advantages and disadvantages, which is, if we use one particular thing in a way we're not supposed to, it's can cause harm to our body. Drinking garri can been as enjoyment especially using the other supplements but pleased, we should understand that it can lead to nutrients deficiency if we consume excess of it or frequently.

I will like to place my humble invitation to @aspiya, @kidi40, @bossj23, @alli001 and @saintkelvin17.
