These are animals that have selectively bred and genetically adapted over generations to live with us. These animals make a huge contribution to our well-being, and most of these animals are used as working animals(Police dogs), Pets(cats), livestock(food).

This is a species of animal which was worshiped as a God or goddess in some parts of the world. They have over 200 + breeds of horses with over a hundred breeds that are not recognized. Some cultures consumed horse meat and as well used it as a means of transportation. The domestic horse ate descendants of the Wild horse, as they were domesticated about 6000 years ago and crossbred.

Research has shown that they are over 400 breeds of a domestic dog living with us. Looking at the origin of the domestic dog, we have to go back to the time memorial. Domestic dogs are descendants of the Gray Wolf which was domesticated some 14000 years ago. Some scientists have pointed out a good number of morphological differences between dogs and wolves and concluded that dogs may be descendants of an extinct wild ancestor. Dogs were the first animal to be domesticated by early humans, and are great companions to humans today.

There are over 70 breeds of domestic pig, and statistics show we are still counting as new breeds keep emerging. These animals have got to evolve to always adapt to the condition where they are found. Pigs are the most maligned of domestic animals and are highly intelligent. Pigs are descendants of the wild boar, about 9000 years ago these animals were domesticated in Europe and China. The wild boar was looking for easily accessible meat as the animal often wandered the stress of ancient towns and found it in garbage spots. Wild boar is an ancestor to the present-day domestic pig, due to the cross-breeding of species.

There are about 50 breeds of domestic cats recognized by the IGA(International Gat Association). Most of these domestic cats are descendants of the African wildcat with evidence pointing back to 9500 years ago when the wild cat had some level of domestication. Domestic cats can be found in diverse colors, fur types, and body forms, and few fall under the lineage of the wild cat. Most of these domestic cats come as a result of cross-breeding of small wild cats. An example is the Bengal, Ocicat
