Steem greetings everyone!
There's a reality of life that no two people on Earth have the same fingerprints. This is a clear indication that there's something unique about each person. This human uniqueness means misunderstandings are inevitable.
I think it's perfectly fine to misunderstand each other once in a while. After all, I believe we sometimes misunderstand one another precisely so we can learn to understand each other better.
My best friend back in primary school was a Nigerian named Franklin Nwokori Chinagorum. I was 15 years old in Primary 5 (P5), and Franklin was 22 years old. Here's how we met.
It was a sunny day at school in 2008, in the city of Douala, Cameroon. We had our morning lessons and went out for break, which used to be called "long break." The break lasted for about two hours.
When we went out for break, we ate whatever we could find. There was a lot variety.
Our class was quite large, with 126 pupils. Because of this, it was difficult to know everyone in the class.
The bell rang for break.
I returned to class, and out of 125 classmates, I found about 90 present. The number kept increasing as those outside came back in. As everyone knows about Douala, the temperatures are scorching.
People settled down, everyone dripping with sweat. They started taking off their shirts and fanning themselves to cool down. Others took off their shoes, and the whole place began to smell terribly, making it hard to breathe. After a while, I couldn't take it anymore. I decided I needed some fresh air.
As I stood up and headed towards the door of the classroom, I saw a strong-looking guy with well-developed muscles standing and blocking the door.
So, as I approached this guy to go outside, he looked at me and said, "No one enters or leaves the class!" In my mind, I thought, "This guy must be crazy, right? Because he's not even the class prefect!"
There's a French quote that says " A little misunderstanding can wake up a sleeping love."
This means that misunderstandings though unpleasant, sometimes can lead to deeper understanding and stronger relationships like it did for me and Frank.
In a world craving for peace, understanding misunderstandings is the key that unlocks compassion. Let's bridge the gaps between cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs by actively listening, asking for clarity, and embracing the richness of human uniqueness. Together, through open communication and a genuine desire to understand, we can build a world where peace is a reality.
Cheers ✌️
