Multiplying Plantain Plantlets

Hello Steemians.hope you all are doing well. Today I like to share about multiplying plantlets. Plantain is a most cheerished food crop in Cameroon commonly eaten in almost every household.Another name of plantain is Musa paradisiaca. Plantains are propagated most often from suckers. They are the Shoots that grow from a bud at the base of the plant or from corms that is the underground bulbs known as rhizomes.They produce healthy, fruitful pseudostems when they mature.

A plantain is actually a type of banana, but with a different flavor and unlike a Banana both of them can be prepared in different ways and eaten differently too.Plantain is often larger in size than bananas, and have a thicker skin too. Plantains are also starchier and lower in sugar than bananas. They range in color from green to yellow to dark brown,

Multiplying plantain plants is one activity that young agricultural technicians as well as passionate agriculturalist, have been involving
in lately . Through the process of vegetative propagation, it has been one of the lucrative activities that young people can easily engage in, which can fend them reasonable amounts of money that they can be able to self sponsor themselves in schools and other activities..
Plantains grow best in hot and humid climates and require rainfall of at least 1000 mm per year to survive.Plantlets grow better in soil rich in organic matter which is well drained and well aerated. Young plantains are very susceptible to wind damage and it is recommended that they are planted in a block so that the plants will protect one another.
