Damages caused by insects on crop production

I have been having some challenges as a farmer as a result of insects always eating my crops. This how ever reduce my productivity and output as well as my quality thus a reduction in my income I obtain from my farm. After careful analysis I came up with some findings and would like to share with you today how insects affect crop production.

One of the highest destruction on crop production is by insects. These insects include caterpillars, grasshoppers and birds. They feed directly on crops by mouthparts. They do a lot of damages by creating bore holes on crops especially fruits and sometimes on the leaves of the plant with the case of grasshoppers. The bores they creat on plants deform the entire plant leading to low output and food insecurity.

Some of the insects lay eggs on plant leaves thus creating a favorable condition for fungi infection which is one of the attacked on crop production. When such insects lay their eggs on the plant tissues, their host plant germinate not on a normal condition thus leading to aborted fruits. This is very big challenge to a farmers especially during fructification period and as a result of these, the crop yield is bound to be low.

Furthermore, some insects are well known for the transmission of plant disease. This type of insects are called vectors. When farmers plant to invest they have to expect insects most especially as climate have change leading to favorable conditions for the breath of variety of insects more of which are within the tropics. Farmers need to plan and bring up strategies to fight this challenge be it via mixed cropping, frequent monitoring and search for other options like insecticides so that they can prevent further increase on insect population. Most of the diseases transmitted are plant viruses like fungi and bacteria.

When an insect creat an infection, the plant organism have now free access into the plant tissue by feeding on it. This is very possible for insects that carries diseases on their body from one plant to another plant.
It’s not easy to talk about the long term but insects are the highest adaptable form of life on earth and their number passed other animal species. Insects can adapt in any habitat be it a swamp, desert or any environment. All these have made food production a problem due to increase insect competition.
