Meat Preservation Due to power failures in Bamenda

Greetings to all my steemit friends. I wish you all seasonal greetings.
Bamenda for years have been having serious power challenges. A good number of business persons have to buy refrigerators to power their fridges so as to preserve food items from getting damaged. This how ever is still insufficient as just only few households can afford to have one.

Preserving meat by smoking

During this Christmas period, a good number of families have been storing things to avoid further price increase but it’s a pity as many have started smoking some of the food items like fish and meat as there is constant power cuts.
Smoking is the method whereby persons decide to make fire and dry the meat or reduce the freshness and water contain so as to keep it for longer periods. This system needs much firewood and time as it entails special attention if not can be consumed all by the flames. This is a big challenge as many have instead incurred huge loses removing from fridge and roasting it. With roasting one needs firewood, and sometimes stones to make a fireside. After making the fire you need to place the ‘griyange’ on the fire then salt the meat and placed on it. The flames of the fire should be reduced and only charcoal is good to heat the meat.

Preserving meat by Boiling

Furthermore, with low technology many decide to just boiled the meat so as to sustain its duration. This one is just to wash the meat, slice it then apply salt and Maggi into the pot and cook it to a certain degree of readiness. This is the most common preservation of all that many households adopt. It’s easy and fast.
Life is really hard this time couple with high prices in the market. With that in mind we ought to do all to preserve our food not to lose it or let it get bad. Apart from roasting and boiling we can as well can some of the food items but meat canning techniques in Cameroon are rear and many do not like such especially on festive period.

Many in bamenda are into Njanghi and this period have given rise to high livestock slaughtering to share within all members. All these meet is either boiled or roasted to reduced it perishability. We do not have a choice but have to adapt on the little means we have. Thanks for reading and wish you all a good X-Mass period in Advance.

There has been constant power failure in one part of Foncha street due to the blown out transformer station.This has left people with refrigerators stranded with Christmas stuff and no proper means of preserving them . Smoking and boiling the meat are better in such a state.

The power cut is not only in Bamenda even here in buea thus boiling and smoking are the only way out

When dry it one fire its not enough as magos will find their on it Sir. Use cement peper to wrap it inside well and keep it in a dry place this will take year.😋😋😋 another way of preserving is by eating...😂😂😂😂😋😋😋 thanks for sharing
