The use of chemicals on food production in Cameroon

Hello steem world my warm greetings and hope all of us are doing fine.

Today I will be sharing with you what I recently discovered about the use of chemicals in Cameroon and more other related issues that will be interesting for us to learn about chemical food production.

Cameroon in the 80’s was called the food basket of Africa because of its quantity and quality safe and secured food produce but this is not more. In recent years the case has change as the country now solely rely but on the use of chemicals to increase food production. The use of this chemicals have led to the reduction in the quality of the food produce. More emphasis have been made most especially amongst youths to engage into sustainable food production but with increase in food demand, they have change their mentality from quality to quantity and have now engage so much into chemical farming.
These chemicals are substances or mixtures used by farmers to fight diseases like insects that attacked their crops, fungi so as to increase food production. Chemicals is a general name to pesticides, fungicide, herbicide and rodenticide.

These chemicals are used due to the observe challenge in pest, insect and fungi handling by farmers.
The continues use of these chemicals have led to environmental(water, air and land), food(chemical food residues) and health destruction thus reducing the quality and quantity of the food produce. The poor handling and usage of these chemicals have led to related health problems either from consuming food with pesticides food residue or being in contact with the chemicals.

In subsequent days we will be looking at how to solve the problems of chemical handling and usage, chemicals effects on food production, pesticides effect on the environment, ways of getting in contact with chemicals, use or personal protective equipment and the need for sustainable food production.
Coming up with this topic today is because we all depends on food to survive and when the farmers health is not good, there will be a reduction in food production. So it will be good to protect the life of the farmer via Integrated Pest Management.
