On Saturday, October 12, 2024, The Green, Bright Light Project, and other dedicated organizations joined forces with the youth of Bamenda for a campaign aimed at cracking down on plastic pollution at Mulang. It was a day filled with joy and enthusiasm as young people came out in large numbers to combat plastic pollution and explore viable solutions to this pressing issue. The event was organized by Nsangou Rudolf, President of QS Impact Bamenda.

During this engaging work session, interviews were conducted in the market square to gather feedback on the effects of plastic pollution on the environment and local markets. The responses collected were invaluable, offering insights that will drive positive action.

The Greens led an educational talk for the youth at the market square, emphasizing the responsibility of young people in addressing the rampant increase in plastic waste due to their consumption habits. They discussed potential solutions for better managing plastics, highlighting that many youths often complain about job scarcity while overlooking the potential of utilizing what they already have at their disposal. Nsangou pointed out that items often deemed as having little value can actually be quite valuable, providing opportunities for income and improving living standards. He urged the youth to think critically and seek meaningful change in their communities.

The leader of the Bright Light Project encouraged the youth to adopt a networking mindset, emphasizing that every event, no matter how small, could hold the key to future opportunities. Nsangou Rudolf expressed gratitude to the youth for their commitment to making this campaign a success. At the end of the event, over 2,000 plastic bottles were collected and taken to our main recycling site for shredding.
