Saving Assange 04

This is the last of four films assembled from found footage which tells the story of Julian Assange and WikiLeaks, and how the authorities have tried to silence them, and divert attention away from the war crimes they exposed.

In this final part the film the totally inhuman treatment of Julian Assange, and the conditions he has been exposed to, at the hands of a hostile government and judicial system, which has been called torture by many authorities around the world, including the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Nils Melzer, and many doctors and doctor’s associations.

The inability for Julian to prepare a defense against the charges he faces, the restrictions of meetings with his lawyers, the solitary confinement he has been subjected to, the continuing hostility and calls for his death, and the closure of WikiLeaks, contrasts so completely with the war criminals he exposed, who are not only still at large, but are celebrated and feted by the media, is astonishing.

There was a real hope that if Jeremy Corbyn had become Prime Minister in the UK, Julian may have been freed, and there is still some hope that is Bernie Sanders can win in the US, it may have the same result. There is virtually no hope at present, however, that the people who perpetrated the crimes will be prosecuted.

Although I really appreciate the efforts made in this series to expose the treatment of Assange, I think a similar series which shows some of the criminal activities WikiLeaks have exposed would have a greater impact, and bring the story back round to what it should have been all along: the corruption of our governments, and the silencing of speaking truth to power.
