Introductions

Before we start, thank you for your time. I want to make sure you don't feel like you're wasting any of it, so I'll start with some basics to get those out of the way. I'm in my forties, I have a little to none in ways of formal education, I am not yet a citizen of Canada but I live here nonetheless. My common-law partner and I, in our blended family, raise our two kids - one hers and one mine. Before she became the permanent fixture in my life she is now, I've been through a rough separation process that pushed me towards attempted suicide. It would not be inaccurate to say I have been around the block, in more ways than one.

My background by trade is in computer science. I have been coding since a very early age, back in the 80s on an Apple IIc device. Over the years I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time and worked for the like of Microsoft, Compaq (when they existed), and more. I had a good run with a large variety of fun projects that helped me relocate to different countries and included amazing experiences, and even more incredible teachers and mentors. I've also traveled a bunch around everywhere I could and spent a few decades skydiving. I took that particular hobby to world-record levels, but that's another story for another day.

Today I want to share my vision for the future of our society and our species. It sounds big, I know. To make a long story short, I want it to be more like Star Trek than Mad Max, but this is not a Sci-Fi story. This is a vision based in reality, and technologies we have today. This is a description of steps in a path towards something new, that would enable our next generations to live in a much better way than we do today. The kings of the Middle Ages lived not much better than some homeless people these days, and I’d argue that a homeless person with an iPhone today is more knowledgable and entertained than a king of old times ever was by any court jester.

Civilization changes altogether every few decades, all due to mere progress through the evolution of times and technology. Some changes are due to the interactions between societies, other changes are within societies. With a little scaling up or down of some existing ideas and technologies, we can engineer and design a much better and healthier local and global society. I hope you will invest more time into me and my ideas. I hope you will also help spread the word, and engage in ways to improve these ideas, and everyone's lives in the process.

And if not, be kind to one another either way.
