Our government is not really ours, it is not really a democracy, and it is not out to help people. Today's government is corrupt and has been skewed towards corporations, banks, and the economy at large. It is a simple problem of scale, if you care for the group you tend to lost sight of the individuals that make up that group. And it goes without saying that individuals belong to many groups, at times with conflicting interests, and again, our government isn't equipped to handle that.

Our government is also old and archaic. To be honest, it has no place in the 21st century. In this second decade, to deal with climate change, we have no time to waste. We need to course correct society and ensure we have a future.

That means a new form of government, a new set of rules, a declaration of new human rights, an updated version of the social contract that defines the relationship between people and their government. New set of rules that make use of and implement existing technologies, so people can control the government, and not the other way around. New set of rules that put people first, not corporations or ideological "ism".

New form of government that doesn't always react to the fire, it plans for the future. New government which is transparent, innovative, and helps its people. It allows interaction with the people to support a real democracy. How many of you support war, selling weapons to continue killing in other countries, sending our local troops to be traumatized in other parts of the world, and not get good care upon their return? How many of you voted to spend your tax dollars on such things instead of better local services? How many of you voted to make sure dentists were not covered under our current healthcare? How many vote for what is taught in schools? How about which highway is maintained, and at what cost? No wonder we don't trust our government.

We don't live in a democracy, and that's the simple truth. But we can, using technology. It's easy to imagine an app, that pops up a few questions once a month, and lets the people decide between working on transportation problems first or recreation centers. Is education or garbage collection a higher issue this month? Our trust in the government doesn't exist. But it needs to be restored.
