24 AND the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?” 25 So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, AND THERE HE TESTED THEM,
26 and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”
Exodus 15:24-26 (NKJV)
"THEN the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day, THAT I MAY TEST THEM, WHETHER THEY WILL WALK IN MY LAW OR NOT."
Exodus 16:4 (NKJV)
• God has the habit of testing whoever wants to walk with Him intimately:
"NOW IT CAME TO PASS AFTER THESE THINGS THAT GOD TESTED ABRAHAM, and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am” (Genesis 22:1 NKJV).
- Most of the things God did allow the Israelites to pass through or experience in their journey to the land of Canaan, were tests which He expected them to pass (Deuteronomy 8:2,16).
- Unfortunately, they failed those tests and were robbed of their ultimate Blessing—getting to the the land they were promised:
21 But as surely as I live and my power has no limit, 22-23 I SWEAR THAT NOT ONE OF THESE ISRAELITES WILL ENTER THE LAND I PROMISED TO GIVE THEIR ANCESTORS. These people have seen my power in Egypt and in the desert, but they will never see Canaan. They have disobeyed and tested me too many times" (Numbers 14:21-23 Contemporary English Version). - Similarly, in your Christian journey as a Believer in Christ Jesus, God would allow you to be tested as regarding whatever He wanted to do in your life.
- God would want to test your character, obedience, reliability, faith, and faithfulness!
• God tests before He promotes whoever He wanted to. Each promotion is preceded by a test or a couple of Such.
- The speed with which you rise or move in your Christian journey and the Blessings of God you receive, are determined by how often you pass God's tests that are brought your way.
- The Israelites journey was slowed down, impeded, and ultimately could not be brought to the completion.
- The main or original people who were purposefully taken out of Egypt to get to Canaan land were unable, but their children. This happened because they could not pass the tests brought their ways (Numbers 14:22,23; Hebrews 3:16-19).
- And they could not pass the Tests, because of their unbelief, hardened heart, disobedience, and rebellion:
12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of UNBELIEF in departing from the living God; 13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be HARDENED through the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, 15 while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not HARDEN your hearts as in the REBELLION.” 16 FOR who, having heard, REBELLED? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? 17 Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not OBEY? 19 SO WE SEE THAT THEY COULD NOT ENTER IN BECAUSE OF UNBELIEF" (Hebrews 3:12-19 NKJV).
• God said they had denied Him ten times:
"NONE of the men who have seen my glory and my signs which I wrought in Egypt and in the wilderness, AND YET HAVE PUT ME TO THE PROOF THESE TEN TIMES AND HAVE NOT HEARKENED TO MY VOICE" (Numbers 14:22 Revised Standard Version)
- You will do well to cooperate with God in whatever test brought your way by Him, and Endeavour or strive to pass it.
- That sum of money you have just gotten, big or small, could be a test!
- God may ask you to give part of it or the whole of it, for a particular purpose in His Kingdom; to His work, His minister, or someone in need.
- Your obedience, the promptness of it, determines your lifting or promotion. It also determines the depth of your relationship and fellowship with God, and the covenant He establishes with you.
• Any number of believers miss it always in the place of passing God's tests.
- Some things which many believers lay the blame on the devil, are caused by their insensitivity and their inability cooperate with the Holy Spirit on the inside of them, to pass God's tests—which could have led to their blessings, promotion, and greatness.
- Unbelief, disobedience, hardness of hearts, and rebellion would hinder your growth and your blessings in the Kingdom (Hebrews 3:18,19).
- Amazingly, some believers do not even believe that God does test His children, in their walk with Him. These tests are shared on the pages of the Scriptures (Exodus 15:24; 16:4; Deuteronomy 8:2,3; 13:3; Judges 2:22; 3:1,4).
- How God tested His people to proof their hearts, to know whether they would be loyal to Him or not.
- He uses various things like hunger, basic needs of life, obedience to certain instructions and commands; to test them:
2 And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, TO HUMBLE YOU AND TEST YOU, TO KNOW WHAT WAS IN YOUR HEART, WHETHER YOU WOULD KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS OR NOT. 3 SO He humbled you, ALLOWED YOU TO HUNGER, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, THAT HE MIGHT MAKE YOU KNOW THAT MAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE; BUT MAN LIVES BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS FROM THE MOUTH OF THE LORD" (Deuteronomy 8:2,3 NKJV). - He also uses opposition, those who rose as enemies, to test them:
21 I also will no longer drive out before them any of the nations which Joshua left when he died, 22 SO THAT THROUGH THEM I MAY TEST ISRAEL, WHETHER THEY WILL KEEP THE WAYS OF THE LORD, to walk in them as their fathers kept them, or not." 23 Therefore the Lord left those nations, without driving them out immediately; nor did He deliver them into the hand of Joshua" (Judges 2:21,23 NKJV).
• What would you become in Him If you are lifted to a higher honour—a place of blessing and greatness?
- Would you not renounce God? Would you still be faithful in what you are assigned to do?
- And If you were in need, Would you still SERVE God faithfully and be obedient to the instructions given you by Him?
- God rewards faithfulness in whatever state or level you may find yourself—either in riches or lacks.
• You will not fail in Jesus' name.
Peace!
