BENEFITS OF HEEDING HIS WORD

  1. "Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you! O Israel if you listen to Me!
  2. There shall be no foreign god among you; nor shall you worship any foreign god.
  3. BUT MY PEOPLE WOULD NOT HEED MY VOICE, and Israel would have none of Me."
    Psalm 81:8,9,11 (NKJV)

• God admonishes the Israelites, His people, but they did not listen to Him.

  • Due to the fact that they did not heed His voice, He permitted them to have their ways—to walk in the path of their own counsel (Psalm 81:11,12; Acts 14:16; Romans 1: 24, 26).
  1. "But My people would not heed My voice, and Israel would have none of Me.
  2. So I gave them over to their own stubborn heart, to walk in their own counsels."
    Psalm 81:11,12 (NKJV)
  • In a similar way, God is admonishing, warning, some today, but they do not want to heed Him.

• Supposing the Israelites did allow God in their lives, that is, in their affairs and walk in His ways:

  • God would have subdued their enemies (Psalm 81:14).
  • He would have defended them, turn His hand against their adversaries (Psalm 81:14).
  • God would have fed them with fat of wheat, the finest of wheat 🌾—abundance of food (Psalm 81:16).
  • Also, they would have been satisfied with honey from the rock—sweet things of life (Psalm 81:16).
  1. “Oh, that My people would listen to Me, that Israel would walk in My ways!
14 I would soon subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their adversaries.
  2. He would have fed them also with the finest of wheat;
and with honey from the rock, I would have satisfied you.”
    Psalm 81:13,14,16 (NKJV)

• Much the same as God did; He is speaking, admonishing those, who care to listen to Him—through the Lord Jesus Christ and His servants today.

  1. "God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,
  2. HAS IN THESE DAYS SPOKEN TO US by His SON, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds."
    Hebrews 1:1,2 (NKJV)
  • You would do well to heed the Word being spoken by Jesus through His delegates—tomorrow might be too late.
  1. "Therefore we must give the more earnest heed [all more careful attention] to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.
  2. How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him."
    Hebrews 2:1,3 (NKJV)

• Many want God to fight their battles, but they are not ready to live in line with His Word.

  • God will not be able to do much in your life if you do not heed His Word.
  • Practicing God's Word enables Him to work in your life freely. But if you do not walk in the light of His Word, you incapacitate Him—you weaken Him in the matters of your life.

• You will not fail in Jesus' name.

Those promises were for Israel. They don't apply to the church.

God made this promise to Israel:

(Exodus 15:26 NIV) He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you."

It should be obvious that that promise doesn't apply to the church. My first wife died from kidney disease.
