- “Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, YOU SEEK ME, not because you saw the signs, BUT BECAUSE YOU ATE OF THE LOAVES AND WERE FILLED.
- “DO NOT LABOUR FOR THE FOOD WHICH PERISHES, but for the food which endures to EVERLASTING LIFE, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
John 6:26,27 (NKJV)
• Whoever is seeking the Lord should seek Him because of good reasons.
- Some only seek God for their needs to be met.
GOD will meet your needs if you seek Him, but He does want the relationship to grow beyond that—He wants to be in a fellowship with you (Matthew 6:33; 7:7,8). - He does not want to meet your needs alone, He wants to fellowship with you, have communion with you: that you may truly experience His care and love (Revelation 3:20).
- Do not seek God because of mundane things alone, but because of your soul.
IT is all right to come to Him with your needs, but the relationship should not end there—It should go beyond what you want to receive from Him, it should grow to become Father and son's or daughter's relationship.
• Those who came to Jesus, seeking Him, were doing it because of the food He gave them the previous day; He knew they were not sincere in their hearts—they were seeking Him because of the physical food, not because of the power which was demonstrated by Him—the miracle they witnessed (John 6:26,27).
- In other words, they were not seeking to be intimate with Him, they were only interested in the food He will give them.
- Many today are seeking God because of what to eat, what to put on, and many other various reasons—and those reasons should not be the main reasons why whoever is seeking Him is doing it (Matthew 6:31-33).
- Seek Jesus because of the food that endures to everlasting life.
- Like I said before, it is all right to come to Jesus because of your needs, but your coming should not be solely on that—to meet your needs.
• If you come to Him with a heart to receive from Him, that your need be met, He will not turn you away; however, let your relationship with him go beyond that (Romans 10:11,12).
- Seek God to establish a relationship with Him, and afterwards build a strong fellowship with Him.
- To establish a relationship with HIM: you believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sin and resurrected for your justification, and you confess it with your mouth (Romans 4:25; 10:9,10).
- Your relationship with Him is strengthened as you fellowship with Him, converse with Him, telling Him everything you want to do—you carry Him along in all your endeavour.
• God does not have any problem in meeting your needs, but He does want your heart to be given to Him totally.
IF you give your heart to Him completely, He will do more than your expectations (John 15:7).
- The first thing is your heart to be given to Him wholly, totally, then, the needs would be taken care of (Matthew 6:33; 1 Timothy 4:8).
- If God succeed in getting your heart, your total attention, He will not hesitate to meet your needs; He will even do more than whatever you requested—what you do not ask for would be given to you (1 Kings 3:11-13).
- By the time this is accomplished, that is, you have submitted to Him totally: your desires or requests would be what He Himself desires for you. YOUR thinking and quest would align, tally, with His—you will no longer desire carnally or wildly, your desires would be tamed (John 15:7; James 4:3).
- Presently He may be hesitant in meeting your whole desires, wants, because some of them are not in line with His plans and programmes for your life.
HE can only grant desires that are in line with His Word (John 15:7). - However, if you come to know Him, grow in your relationship and fellowship with Him, your desires and longings would be different; you would have grown to be seeing things in His perspectives, point of views, and that is what He wants.
- You will grow to the point that He could trust your judgements, your decisions.
HE wants you to grow in knowing His will, that at a point, He would not need to vet all your decisions again, although you would still need to let Him know whatever you want to do (1 Corinthians 7:25).
“Now concerning virgins: I have no commandment from the Lord; YET I GIVE JUDGMENT AS ONE WHOM THE LORD IN HIS MERCY HAS MADE TRUSTWORTHY.”
1 Corinthians 7:25 (NKJV)
- Your growth in the Lord should get to the point where God can make you trustworthy—allow your decisions on certain issues.
- Paul made us understand in 1 Corinthians chapter 7 that some of the things He said were not direct commands of the Lord, but He, God, allowed or permitted him to give judgments, make decisions, on the matter being considered (1 Corinthians 7:12,25).
- The reason why God made Paul trustworthy is that He knew Paul would not make a wrong judgement or decision; because He was mature enough to know what God would want or like in certain situations, and what He would not want or like in such situations.
• God wants every believer to grow to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13).
- “[That it might develop] until we all attain oneness in the faith and in the comprehension of the full and accurate] knowledge of the Son of God, THAT [we might arrive] AT REALLY MATURE MANHOOD (the completeness of personality which is nothing less than the standard height of Christ’s own perfection), THE MEASURE OF THE STATURE OF THE FULLNESS OF THE CHRIST and the completeness found in Him.”
Ephesians 4:13 (Amp.)
- At this level of growth in Him, God knows the judgement or decision you make would not be coloured, tainted, or sentimental.
- It is when you grow thus that you are no longer moved by circumstances or any other things, but God’s wills and standards (Ephesians 4:14,15).
- It is then God can approve your judgements and decisions (2 Timothy 2:15).
• You may start your relationship with Him at the level of seeking Him to meet your needs, but God surely does want you to grow in your walk with Him beyond that—HE WANTS YOU TO GROW TO THE MEASURE OF THE STATURE OF THE FULLNESS OF CHRIST, where you would be able to discern both good and evil (Hebrews 5:14).
“But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, THOSE WHO BY REASON OF USE HAVE THEIR SENSES EXERCISED TO DISCERN BOTH GOOD AND EVIL.”
Hebrews 5:14 (NKJV)
- If you are at the level of seeking Him because of food or material things, He surely does want you to grow beyond that: thus you need to sit up and grow in spiritual exercises.
• You will not fail in Jesus' name.
Peace!
