Boating in September

I love taking my boat to the water. I suppose it's the fact that I change the support on which the vehicle runs that always fascinated me about owning and driving a boat in the Delta of the Danube.

In general, I go to Sulina City when I hit the river and start a new fishing adventure. It's easier and more comfortable to be inside a city/town that has the minimum modern infrastructure... like ATM's. Although there's no land road connecting the mainland to Sulina, boats are supplying everything needed in the city. Also, the city is an entrance gate to the continent so a lot of passing ships, carrying goods as well as other things, have to do customs here and also, in some cases, leave some of the cargo. The city lacks nothing, especially during the season... and the season here starts in march mostly and goes until late November sometimes. It is that kind of a place that combines adventure, fishing and summer attraction as it is very close to the sea and it has this very fine sand. The finest in this area of Europe anyway.

In the morning when we left, an old brig that our navy still uses for festivities, entered from the sea and headed up west to Tulcea. It packs a very loud siren and it surely awoke everybody in the city or at least those that weren't awake yet, like me. For my luck, we had the accommodation on the end of the city, as it flows along the main, Sulina, canal and I had time to get something on me and run outside just to catch it. Practically its siren woke me up when it entered the city, that's how loud it was.

On the way back to Tulcea I managed to catch it again and get a better look, from the water and as you can see in the short movie I posted, the boat looks impeccable. Although it was supposed to sail back in its glory times, now it packs a diesel (from the sound it made I supposed it's a diesel) and it moves at a nice speed on the water, considering its dimensions.

We left the Delta when some forest fires were going on so on my way back to Tulcea I sailed a little bit more careful and slow just so I can catch the smoke on video. In these parts, as the road infrastructure is not available at all almost, forest fires can't be controlled. There's no access in a lot of areas and the main argument here is "it is surrounded by water, how far can it extend?".

Enough to endanger some species I guess...
