With Minnesota's stay-at-home orders, we've had some extra free time, and as I've been strumming on the uke in my office, I have heard Paula humming along in the room next door. That got us to toying around with the idea of learning some songs together.
The tunes we had been practicing didn't seem to fit current events — #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd — so we picked up this one today. Still a bit rough, but after a couple takes . . .
Our sorrow pales in comparison to the heartbreak felt by those close to George Floyd, among too many others lost to similar violence.
Our anger cannot match the outrage boiling over in our community as we have not experienced similar injustices.
Yet, #weseeyou, #wehearyou, we add our voices to yours in our way, hoping that we can all imagine a world in which our differences are set aside. One in which we truly "love our neighbors as ourselves," and instead of those differences being the source of judgement and discrimination, we hope what makes each of us unique becomes a thing to celebrate.
